The BCE Accessibility Program Office supports 7 key work streams - Digital, Products, Customer Services, Buildings, Documents & Communications, Human Resources and Procurement.
The IT Manager, leading the BCE Accessibility Program Office is accountable to deliver on the IT Digital Accessibility Plan as well as support the other 6 work streams in the development and execution of their Accessibility Plans.
Some of the major initiatives and deliverables in the IT Digital Accessibility Plan include:
Creating a full accessibility framework with policies, procedures, and practices to instill accessibility adoption across the organization
Training and empowering our content creators, user experience designers, developers, business analysts and testers to understand their role and accessibility
Ensuring all of BCE websites and mobile applications are compliant with globally accepted Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA)
Making accessibility a key component of our development cycle
Standardizing on Accessibility tools and testing methodologies across BCE IT Teams
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the IT Director- Digital Customer Experience, the IT Senior Manager is accountable to lead the BCE Accessibility Program Office Team which is internal and external direct reports
Executing on the IT Digital Accessibility plan which includes incorporating accessibility in to the project lifecycle and operational processes, annual mandatory training, standardized tools and processes across BCE and creation of job aids to support various roles in the process
Partnering with 13 IT teams to make our current BCE websites and mobile applications more accessible to customers and employees following WCAG 2.1 success criterion
Providing support the key leads in each of the other 6 work streams to create a comprehensive Accessibility Plan for BCE
Managing vendor and partner relationships
Growing and developing talent (Business Analysts and Project Managers)
Executive and Stakeholder communications
Critical Competencies
Post secondary degree or diploma preferably with a focus on business or information technology focus
3+ years’ experience as a senior leader preferably in IT or Digital Customer Experience
Strong work ethic with a focus on collaborative problem solving and solutions delivery.
Ability to use a diplomatic approach to work with high level stakeholders and introduction of changes in the business.
Ability to motivate a team to work towards a common end goal
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills to clearly express and communicate concepts, designs and proposals. Ability to communicate highly complex matters and adapt to the target audience and forum.
Ability to conceptualize and think abstractly, and work and manage in a technically complex environment.
Ability to manage ambiguity, uncertainty and changing priorities
Demonstrated ability to learn; both complex technical concepts and end to end business processes
Grow and develop talent
Key Skills
Some knowledge of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.0 and 2.1 would be an asset but not mandatory
Strong working knowledge of federal and provincial accessibility requirements such as AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) and ACA (Accessible Canada Act) would be an asset but is not mandatory
Strong working knowledge of Project Lifecycles and Bell’s governance processes would be an asset by not manadatory
Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
Proficient with Micro-soft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
Proficient at creating Power Point communications targeted at Senior Executive
Proven leadership and organization skills
Excellent ability to articulate and document technical concepts to non-technical audience
Autonomous, resourceful, strong tolerance to ambiguity, excellent capacity for applied learning
Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
