Universal Design, Learning & Digital Accessibility Specialist

The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Digital Accessibility Specialist exists to support faculty and staff in the development of accessible content, and curriculum for courses/student-focused services at Pikes Peak Community College by utilizing UDL principles and best practices in accessibility. Through collaboration with faculty, staff and administrators, this position will ensure that courses/student-focused services will incorporate universal design for learning principles to reach all learners. The position serves as the main point of contact in support of the college’s Digital Accessibility Committee. The position will develop and deliver training programs incorporating universal design for learning principles for college faculty and staff. Will provide support and consultation services for faculty/staff in utilizing UDL and digital accessibility. Serves on the Accessibility Validation Committee (AVC) to ensure all adopted textbooks, learning platforms, instructional technology, student services, and educational materials are accessible.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accessibility, instructional design, educational technology, or closely related field.
Experience mentoring or training faculty or staff in digital accessibility.
Experience in evaluating and assessing materials for conformance with digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, PDF/UA, etc.)
Experience utilizing assistive technology in evaluating or testing of software, learning platforms, technology, or learning materials to ensure they meet digital accessibility standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or certifications in instructional design, educational technology, digital accessibility, or Universal Design.
Experience in Digital Accessibility training for electronic media.
One year of teaching experience at secondary or college level.
Experience with one learning management system (such as Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Canvas, etc.)
