The Director will provide leadership in college-wide strategies that enhance community building and student belonging. This position develops and implements innovative programs and services that promote student engagement, sense of belonging, increase student retention, student leadership development, and advance the educational value of the co-curricular experience. The Director supervises new student orientation, advises student government, and provides high-level direction for the institution's identity-based communities. This role requires a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, coupled with excellent leadership and collaboration skills.

Job Description:

Provide guidance, support, and high-level leadership to the college’s identity-based communities, including the Student Involvement Center, Environmental Center, Native American Center, El Centro de Muchos Colores, Gender & Sexuality Resource Center, and the Black Student Resource Center.

Provide leadership and direction for Student and Family Orientation programs, ensuring that they effectively support building community and a strong sense of belonging.
Develop and coordinate delivery of training programs and workshops for the campus community to enhance cultural competency and promote inclusive practices.
Lead collaborative efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive events calendar with intentional programs that align with institutional values.
Mentor student and professional staff members on career-related skills, interpersonal communication, leadership, and other aspects of personal and professional development
Recruit staff from across campus to serve on planning committees for celebratory days and heritage months
Lead assessment strategies for the unit, utilizing data to assess student belonging, student satisfaction, and student learning.
Assist with the planning and implementation of several annual campus-wide events including Welcome Week, Orientation, Commencement, etc.
Serve as advisor to Associated Students of Fort Lewis College (student government), provides advisory support to the Financial Allocation Board, and Chair the Institutional Fee Review Board
Execute contract negotiations, goal setting, and assessment of campus contracts, including the Durango Transit and Skyhub
Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508
Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with Fort Lewis College standards
Perform other duties as assigned

The s alary range for this position is $70,000 to $75,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package .

Required Education, Specialized Skills, and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Demonstrated experience hiring, supervising, and evaluating students and full-time employees
A minimum of two years of experience as a mid-level administrator in Higher Education
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
Demonstrated commitment to assessment and evaluation with a focus on continuous improvement

Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA2S+ students, and first-generation students on a college campus
Experience leading cultural competency workshops and trainings
High-level knowledge of principles and procedures for student development
Experience working with student government and Robert’s Rules of Order
Demonstrated skill in the management of complex budgets
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Office products, such as Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Excel
Ability to communicate in more than one language that is common to our student body (English, Spanish, Navajo, etc.)
