As a Senior Test Engineer – Section 508 supporting Federal contracts in the Technology Shared Services (TSS) group, you will be trusted to evaluate and support development of Section 508 compliant software, web, and mobile applications. This role will be done remotely.

In this role, a typical day will include the responsibilities below:

Evaluate software, web, and mobile application user interfaces (UI) for Section 508 compliance
Develop accessibility test plans and test cases
Test and remediate electronic documents in common formats (MS Office, PDF)
Produce clearly written, specific, actionable recommendations for remediation of accessibility issues
Advocate for policies and processes that support Section 508 compliance in GDIT client programs
Collaborate with project teams to identify approaches, practices, and methodologies that enhance maturity of accessibility processes while meeting business objectives
Provide accessibility oversight in the UI planning and design process
Create documentation of compliance status using the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)
Verify accuracy of Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) produced by program staff and third parties
Utilize assistive technology, such as Job Access with Speech (JAWS), Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) and Dragon Naturally Speaking
Perform keyboard testing in a variety of environments
Use accessibility testing software, such as ANDI, Axe DevTools, Accessibility Insights, SortSite, Color Contrast Analyzer, Microsoft Inspect, and/or Oracle Java Access Inspector
Collaborate closely with Federal clients to identify and understand specific compliance challenges and needs
Maintain awareness of Section 508 guidance and direction from Federal sources, such as Section508.gov, Usability.gov, and client Agencies’ Section 508 teams
Interpret and provide guidance on accessibility laws, regulations, and standards
Collaborate and coordinate with Section 508 teams at client Agencies
Maintain broad awareness of compliance requirements, processes and objectives through executive briefings, training programs and internal communication tools


Required qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Studies, Instructional Design, Information Instructional Technology, Curriculum Design and Development, or other areas applicable to the position’s description and needs (or equivalent years of experience)
5+ years of relevant experience in Testing, UI/UX, Usability, Accessibility/Section 508, or some combination thereof
Experience with Section 508 compliance requirements for applications and electronic documents
Knowledge of accessible design practices and effective incorporation of accessibility into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with subject matter experts to conduct research, resolve issues, and develop recommendations
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred qualifications:

DHS Trusted Tester certification
IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) certification
IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification
IAAP Accessible Document Specialist (ADS) certification
JAWS certification

The likely salary range for this position is $76,000 - $114,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
