Who are we looking for?
We are seeking an Web Accessibility & Content Specialist to support our Customer Experience team in enhancing the quality and performance of client websites. This role focuses on managing and validating web accessibility audit reports, delivering accessibility education and training, and improving website navigation and content. Key responsibilities include reviewing third-party accessibility reports, identifying true accessibility issues versus content or design-related challenges, and providing clear, actionable recommendations to internal teams and clients. In addition, the specialist will lead web content audits, contribute to content strategy, and implement on-page SEO best practices to ensure that client websites are both accessible and optimized for search engines.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Review and validate accessibility reports provided by clients from platforms such as SiteImprove, Monsido, Deque, etc.
Distinguish between legitimate product-related issues, content-specific accessibility concerns, and false-positive or duplicate findings.
Provide clear, structured feedback to clients, outlining actionable steps for addressing genuine accessibility issues, and dismissing false positive and duplicate findings.
Assist in creating client-facing documentation, guides, templates, and resources related to accessibility best practices, product accessibility, and the interpretation of reports provided from various accessibility scan platforms.
Deliver accessibility education, training, or workshops for clients, emphasizing content-related accessibility practices, understanding automated vs. manual testing results, and ongoing compliance requirements.
Coordinate closely with internal teams, such as development, product management, and UX, to ensure accurate issue validation and clear communication of accessibility improvements to clients.
Conduct regular accessibility audits of our products and communicate results to our internal teams
Develop sitemaps to structure and organize content for customer websites, enhancing user navigation and SEO performance
Run public engagement activities to gather user input on website content and navigation, ensuring the site meets audience needs and expectations.
Conduct content audits and implement on-page SEO strategies to improve website visibility, relevance, and search engine performance.
Experience and Skills Required:
Proven experience and expertise in web accessibility compliance, specifically WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines, with familiarity or willingness to learn WCAG 2.2 AA.
Expertise in accessibility legislation and standards (WCAG 2.1 AA and ideally WCAG 2.2 AA), particularly as they relate to North American compliance requirements for public sector organizations.
Familiarity and experience interpreting accessibility audit reports from automated testing tools (SiteImprove, Monsido, Deque, etc.) and performing manual validation.
Strong understanding of accessibility principles and best practices, including semantic HTML, ARIA, alt text usage, keyboard navigation, heading hierarchy, colour contrast, and accessible multimedia content.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly conveying accessibility information, concepts, and actionable recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to independently organize, prioritize, and manage accessibility audits and client communications effectively.
Experience providing accessibility training or workshops is highly desirable.
