Metropolitan area providing management consulting services to Federal agencies and organizations supporting the public sector. DIS offers exceptional client services in the areas of Strategic Communications and Integrated Marketing (SCIM), Information Technology (IT), and Enterprise Optimization.

DIS is currently seeking a full-time, exempt 508 Compliance Specialist to join our Strategic Communications and Integrated Marketing Practice. The 508 Compliance Specialist will work approximately 20-30 hours per week and be responsible for supporting our clients by providing Section 508 compliance evaluation and analysis and remediation of electronic documents to ensure compliance with federal accessibility rules and regulations. The 508 Compliance Specialist must have a thorough understanding of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and apply this knowledge to create strategies and processes for ensuring maximum accessibility of client deliverables in addition to remediating products for compliance.

Essential Duties

Have a thorough understanding of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Monitor and stay up to date with latest industry trends, advancements in technology, and evolution of federal accessibility rules, regulations, and guidance.
Collaborate with delivery teams to review and ensure deliverables such as PDF, PPT, Excel and Word documents are Section 508 compliant (at a minimum) and adhere to other applicable accessibility laws.
Serve as Section 508 coordinator and subject matter expert on all 508 issues; participate in working groups and/or meetings with stakeholders to discuss requirements and/or present 508 strategies and solutions; provide guidance on technical issues involving Section 508 as it relates to accessible documents and electronic media.
Assist in developing a Section 508 compliance program by ensuring company policies and procedures are consistent with federal and departmental policies and industry best practices.
Assist in the development and application of Section 508 training programs to instruct delivery teams on how to develop Section 508 compliant products.
Think critically and apply customer and industry insight to solve client problems creatively and quickly.

Required Experience and Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
4-7 years of relevant experience
Understanding of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Use of JAWS and CommonLook for 508 compliance testing
Ability to organize, coordinate, and deliver multiple complex projects/priorities and keep them on deadline
Strong work ethic with a commitment to client service excellence
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the US for any employer as sponsorship is not available for this position
Ability to obtain a US government security clearance
Preference will be given to qualified Veteran candidates

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

508 Compliance certification
Understanding and experience implementing compliance for the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act, WCAG 2.0, Department of Veterans Affairs Website Accessibility Act of 2019, and Plain Writing Act of 2010
Prior government consulting or contractor experience
Experience in health, benefits, IT communications and/or with Veteran and/or military audiences

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.
The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.
Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
