Department Summary
As the chief communications organization for the University of North Texas, the Division of University Brand Strategy and Communications (UBSC) collaborates with internal and external partners to:

Advance and protect UNT’s institutional identity and reputation.
Reinforce and grow UNT’s brand in graphics, images and words.
Increase UNT’s visibility in public and in the higher education marketplace.
Support UNT’s student recruitment, retention and graduation goals.
Strengthen UNT’s relevance and value to key audiences, including alumni, donors, faculty and staff members, and encourage community engagement.

Position Overview
The Division of University Brand Strategy and Communications at the University of North Texas is seeking a Web Accessibility Coordinator to provide central oversight, technical leadership, expert guidance, coordination and support to the University’s faculty and staff in order to achieve and maintain digital and web accessibility compliance.

This position will collaborate with multiple stakeholders across campus to ensure that the web and digital presence of the University is compliant with state and federal regulations and that all audiences with disabilities can easily access our websites and digital resources.

Reporting to Director of Web Strategy and Development, this position will lead the charge to provide an accessible and positive online user experience for all of our audiences. The ideal candidate would act as an accessibility/universal design advocate and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accessibility is a key component of the initial requirements for any digital technology or design initiative at UNT.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrable knowledge of UDL principles, WAI-ARIA and WCAG 2.1 guidelines, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and/or assistive technology.



Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in higher education and/or in the digital marketing and communications industry.
Web and digital accessibility certifications (e.g., CPACC or WAS through IAAP).
Hands-on experience supporting industry-leading assistive technologies such as JAWS, VoiceOver, NVDA, ZoomText, and Dragon Naturally Speaking.
Professional experience utilizing automated accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes.
Experience leading and creating accessibility training programs

Job Duties
o
Develops and implements University-wide initiatives for assessing the accessibility of online university resources. Creates accessibility standards, policies and procedures when appropriate, ensuring updates are implemented as necessary.


o
Conducts accessibility testing (automated and manual) of University websites & electronic documents, develops remediation priorities. Executes or coordinates remediation on University pages and websites.


o
Offers web development expertise and assists in the creation and maintenance of enterprise-level web templates to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 guidelines via expertise in HTML, CSS and knowledge of Javascript.


o
Conducts user testing and accessibility interviews with students, faculty and staff needing accommodations to understand use cases, prioritizes needs and plans strategy.


o
Leads efforts to implement training programs for University employees including accessible web design practices, content creation and the use of assistive technology in navigating websites; develops and manages a web-based repository for web accessibility training materials and reference guides.


o
Performs accessibility reviews and provides written remediation recommendations on third-party applications that are being evaluated for purchase. Works with third-party vendors and the University’s procurement partners to ensure the procurement of accessible products and improve the accessibility of third-party products.
