Job Description
The Role and GM
Our customer is our compass. Their needs are the foundation of our design and they are the reason we do what we do. The Digital Accessibility lead is an individual who is passionate about creating and crafting experiences for ALL customers. This individual would report into the center of excellence and would be responsible for guiding internal and external partners across our product ecosystem (mobile, web, in vehicle) in digital accessibility design, development, testing and remediation. A primary part of this role will be growing the knowledge of internal and external partners on accessible practices and evangelizing accessibility standards in all of products and processes across the organization.

The Digital Accessibility Specialist would assist in outlining our standards and evaluation of accessibility compliance across our ecosystem, as well as designing test processes and procedures. A key part of this role will be elevating company knowledge and evangelizing a culture of change for the organization. Its important that this individual is an excellent team member but must also be capable of assuming leadership roles within teams. In this role this individual should not only have a strong technical expertise but also a desire to mentor and teach.

Responsibilities
Act as the subject matter expert for WCAG guidelines and other relevant industry guidelines and stay informed of new guidelines as they evolve
Understand how a global matrixed organization operates and functions, and thrive in this type of environment
Work across the organization to help drive the adherence and implementation of key compliance guidelines including identifying opportunities to increase effectiveness
Provide expert accessibility feedback in the areas of design (UX/UI), development, and testing to teams across GM on new features and functionality
• Assist Product managers, architects and development teams to interpret accessibility audit reports and identify root causes of defect creation and monitor remediation of those root causes • Partner with executive leadership to share best practices for digital accessibility

Participate in testing and evaluating digital accessibility software

You will be required to digest and understand the many complex factors that govern vehicle design, from social and peer norms to a multinational regulatory environment. You will be able to successfully navigate those factors as you create design solutions.

Outstanding collaboration skills: You are an effortless collaborator. You welcome ideas from any source, and are prepared to build on them to make the work of your team successful.

Proactivity: You automatically solve for or know when to escalate foreseen problems before they become unmanageable. You speak up without hesitation or fear.

A keen eye: you’re quick to recognize UI patterns and inconsistencies and understand how to connect the dots.

Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels
Formal degree or training in HCI, Product Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Library science, or software related.
Fluent in WCAG Guidelines
Familiarity with Siteimprove
Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in accessibility
Affiliation with professional groups related to accessibility
Experience incorporating research into the design process
Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills
Strong communication skills and proven history of championing initiatives
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals
Prototyping experience (software and/or hardware development experience a plus)
