Position Description:

Digital Accessibility means that websites, tools, and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them. BCE is devoted to making the BCE Websites and Mobile Applications easy to use and accessible to people with a wide variety of needs. We strive to continually recognize the ways users with diverse abilities interact with our sites and apps.



Reporting to the Program Manager, the Senior Business Solutions Architect works closely with various teams to help drive the development of a digital accessibility capability across a large organization. Working to ensure all customers can access and use our products, defining policies and guidelines for BCE as well as collaborating with the team to influence WCAG standards, evaluating and providing accessible solutions for web-based and mobile products, educating and promoting the practice of building accessible products, as well as mentoring others in methods and techniques for addressing accessibility barriers.



About the Role:

Be part of a team that will create and implement a strategy for expanding and supporting accessibility standards and policies across the BCE Companies
Prioritize accessibility acting as an advocate for the latest and best practices across a full scope of inclusive accessibility needs.
Provide coaching to product teams on designing, developing, and implementing accessible functionality, features, and content across our digital platforms.
Be a key member of a team assessing the accessibility of our digital audience experiences and prioritize the backlog, ensuring the team is addressing existing gaps.
Provide expertise and consulting in the WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines, and related technologies and standards
Must be familiar with the Accessibility Canada Act (ACA) and other similar provincial bodies



Responsibilities:

Be the Digital Accessibility expert who will define the Accessibility Standards and Policies to be followed by the BCE companies
Continuously build and evolve a strong understanding of the needs of users with disabilities by performing research, processing user feedback, and continuously staying abreast of trends and best practices.
Define, document, and manage an accessibility roadmap that will take BCE’s product accessibility beyond just compliance.

Ability to mentor others in methods and techniques for addressing accessibility barriers on web applications and mobile devices and in a variety of forums.
Ability to develop tools/resources to help provide implementation directions and requirements for UX Design and Front End Development team
Ability to work collaboratively and productively both with diverse teams and independently.



Essential Skills/ Competencies:

Experience leading accessibility evaluations and usability testing for accessibility
Experience with assistive technologies and accessibility-related software

Strong understanding of accessibility standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Strong understanding of accessible web development strategies through semantic HTML, WAI-ARIA, CSS, and JavaScript

Experience with accessibility testing and auditing of desktop, mobile, or web front-end applications.
BA/BS in information science, information design, computer science, human-computer interaction (HCI), instructional design, quality assurance, learning technology, assistive technology, related field, or equivalent industry training/experience.
A full understanding of Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines and specifications. Must be fluent in WCAG 2.1 guidelines; know WAI-ARIA, UAAG, and ATAG specifications.
Experience improving and remediating accessibility using web-based technology including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Strong analysis, problem solving and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to respond both appropriately and effectively
Excellent ability to articulate and document technical concepts to non-technical audience
Team player; ability to facilitate, negotiate and work within a multi-domain team environment
High tolerance for ambiguity
Self-starter with excellent time management skills
Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Office, MS Visio
Experience with Agile SAFe methodology would be an asset.
