Location: Home Based- Remote and Hybrid

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistive Technology Trainer to join our new team of in-house DSA Needs Assessors and AT Trainers.

Capita has been appointed by Student Loans Company (SLC) to supply Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) services in East England, the Midlands, London, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We are seeking experienced AT Trainers within the disability assistive technology space (software and hardware) to address challenges across a broad range of disabilities, matching the features and benefits of the AT hardware and software packages recommended, to the needs of the individual.

We are keen for all our AT Trainers to enhance skillsets and support the Assessor Team during peak periods by carrying out DSA assessments for our customers. We are committed to delivering comprehensive, bespoke internal training to build this into our delivery. This will enable you to carry out a dual role of AT Training and Needs Assessing.

Job Description

What you’ll be doing:

Holding a structured meeting with an individual to identify appropriate study and support strategies to facilitate participation in their study activities including, and where appropriate, Non-Medical Helper (NMH) and travel support.
Evaluate the suitability of, and offer advice on appropriate hardware, software, assistive technology and other aids for each individual.  
Preparing for and producing study needs assessment reports for students in Higher Education who are in receipt of Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA's) in accordance with the appropriate regulations, timeframes and guidance.
Holding a structured meeting with an individual, remotely (by phone or video call) and face-to-face in a hybrid role as required based on customer demand, to identify appropriate study and support strategies to facilitate participation in their study activities including, where appropriate, non-medical helper (NMH) and travel support.
Delivering high quality, relevant, AT Training to meet customer needs.

The role will report directly into the Assessor Team Leader.

What we are looking for:

Excellent report writing abilities and attention to detail
Extensive knowledge of the DSA funding guidance
An in-depth understanding and current knowledge of a range of relevant assistive technology (software and hardware) and its role in addressing challenges across a broad range of disabilities, matching the features and benefits of the AT hardware and software package recommended, to the needs of the individual.
Adept at working to strict KPIs and producing work of excellent quality.
While the role involves independent/lone working we are seeking team players keen to work collaboratively with colleagues to do the best for our customers, with an appreciation that individual performance is critical to the success of the team, reliable and dependable with sound organisational skills.
