What you'll be doing
If you’re passionate developing a career in digital technology where you’ll focus on the user experience and make a real social impact, our Digital Accessibility Specialist apprenticeship could be for you.

You’ll join our Digital Services team in making sure our digital and IT services and solutions can be used by everyone. This includes providing advice and technical support to ensure an inclusive user experience for people with disabilities and helping National Highways to meet its legislative requirements for digital accessibility.

On your learning programme, you’ll be guided by social scientists, Special Education Needs and disability specialists to build your skills and knowledge in areas such as:

Creating inclusive workplaces
Digital Accessibility Guidelines, Standards and Best Practices
Mainstreaming technology
You’ll complete a Level 4 qualification, which is aligned with International Association of Accessibility Professionals and will boost your career prospects as a specialist in social and disability accessibility needs, or as an IT professional specialising in accessibility.

You can choose any National Highways office location as your preferred base for this apprenticeship, providing you’re willing to travel to our other sites when needed.

What you’ll need to succeed
It takes all kinds of people to keep our organisation (and roads) moving. Whatever your age, whatever your background, an apprenticeship is just the start of a long, fulfilling career with us.

If you can show that you’ve got what we see in our apprentices every day, you’ll be a great match. You’ll have:

The ability to work effectively with others in a team
The ability to work to timescales, understanding when and how to prioritise
The ability to give and receive information effectively
The ability to write clearly and concisely
A desire and passion to grow your career at National Highways
You’ll also need to have these essential qualifications:

Minimum of five GCSEs (including English and maths, at grade C/grade 4 or above)
And one of the following:

At least 2 A Levels at a pass grade in at least 2 subjects
BTEC Diploma
International Baccalaureate Diploma with 25 points (including minimum 15 at Higher Level)
Plus:

Level 3 qualification or equivalent in English Language OR a qualification in British Sign Language (BSL)
Can demonstrate equivalent relevant professional experience
It is key to know all offers to onto our apprenticeships are subject to satisfactory completion of our pre-employment checks. This includes a Right to Work check, reference check and a DBS criminal record check.
