Red Hat's Website System team is looking for a Principal Subject Matter Expert in digital accessibility to join us in Raleigh, NC, or remotely in the U.S. to provide consultation on Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to stakeholders and digital property owners to identify and address digital accessibility barriers. In this role, the scope of your consultation will include multiple web properties that make up the core digital experience of our corporate domain. You will provide program leadership where necessary to provide communication touchpoints for the teams needing to be advised on best practices for digital accessibility. As a Principal Subject Matter Expert, you will serve as a coach, communicator, expectation manager, facilitator, and negotiator. You will work to uphold the Red Hat culture across the team or teams you will work with. You will work amongst some of the most talented developers and designers who will share your attention to detail and passion for solving unique business problems. What you will do
Define, communicate, and maintain digital standards for digital accessibility for the website system
Support continuous auditing of websites
Create and maintain a backlog of projects related to accessibility standards in collaboration with the UX Development and Quality Assurance (QA) and Digital Production teams
Identify and request accessibility improvements for vendor-maintained web technologies
Serve as a subject matter expert for WCAG and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance and stay informed of new guidelines as they evolve in order to advise teams on Red Hat’s digital standards
Demonstrate passion for the A11Y Project and inclusive UX design and collaborate with various teams across Red Hat that are also involved in accessibility practices
Coordinate across multiple teams, programs, and backlogs to understand how websites are evolving and maintaining their accessibility
Facilitate digital accessibility program meetings to share best practices across multiple organizations, support roadmap creation on future initiatives where accessibility should be considered
Advise on new tools and processes to enable adherence to accessibility standards
Serve as an active member of a large and complex team composed of both technical and non-technical associates and help them communicate effectively with each other
What you will bring
Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1, Section 508, Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA), and ADA compliance standards
8+ years of experience with digital accessibility, working with websites and web applications
5+ years of experience operating in a complex, agile or hybrid delivery environment
Solid working knowledge of current web standards and corporate design systems
Proficiency in the most common screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
Experience working with accessibility testing tools; Deque axe is a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to internal partners and stakeholders
Business insight and skills to engage leaders on business terms and deliver solutions typical of market leading an enterprise software company
Experience working with Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) is a plus
International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or other certification is a plus
