We are seeking an Information Systems Specialist 2. This full-time, limited duration (scheduled to end June 30, 2020) position is located in our Salem Office of the Oregon Department of Education.

Our Information Technology Office is looking for an individual to step outside the box with us to create a truly accessible online environment. What does that look like? That’s the point, not everyone can see what is online, but they should be able to visualize what is online through the tools and technology available to those with disabilities. So what will this person do? To begin, the person in this position will review and remediate all HTML on our public website to ensure compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level 2.0 AA.

We are looking for an individual with the skills and drive to bring our online environment up to accessibility standards. This position works within our IT Enterprise, Policy and Standards Unit, and supports the entire agency and the public. This position will play a critical role in the workflow for publication of all web content. The person we seek will be responsible for accessibility remediating the mark-up language (HTML) developed by the SharePoint application used on our public website. Working with web content professionals across the agency, the successful candidate will review and remediate HTML, escalate issues, and identify trends for continued improvement.

What are we looking for?

A skilled candidates with at least One (1) year of information systems experience OR an equivalent combination of experience/training.

The individual must have experience in the following areas:

Extensive knowledge and demonstrated skill with HTML
Demonstrated experience with web accessibility remediation
Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and SmartSheet

Must have working knowledge of:

Common computer programs and software (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
WCAG 2.0 AA

Candidates who are the most competitive will possess the following background, skills and experience:

Experience or knowledge reviewing webpages and web applications for accessibility
Experience communicating technical concepts to users
Ability to review, research and understand technical standards
Strong customer service skills
Knowledge and experience in application lifecycle, tools and technologies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with a variety of customers and stakeholders
Ability to effectively solve problems in an active, multi-tasking environment
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to the changing environments
Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision
Team player and works well with people from diverse backgrounds
Preference may be given to the candidates with:
Degree in Information Technology
At least five months of HTML experience
Demonstrated ability to read code (.NET, C#, SQL, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS)
Bilingual/bicultural candidates
