Our Accessibility Team at Marx|Okubo is seeking a Senior Associate, Accessibility Specialist. If you are passionate about understanding the nuances of accessibility requirements and collaborating across design and construction teams to help clients make informed decisions and achieve compliance, we would love to hear from you. Tapping into expertise in design and construction, codes, and regulations thoughtfully and deliberately, we aim to identify solutions that are reasonable and attainable within project constraints.
This role will ideally be filled in either our Atlanta or White Plains office, though Chicago, Boston, and Miami will be considered. Applicants can expect a hybrid schedule with a mix of two days in the office in addition to time in the field, and remaining time working from home.
As a Senior Associate, Accessibility Specialist you will make an impact by helping to achieve the team’s strategic goals, focusing on topics specific to your interests. All team members are expected to continue to learn and stay up-to-date on all related codes and regulations through company funded participation in conferences, seminars, and webinars chosen by the team and individually.
Essential Functions
Conduct computer-based plan reviews at the schematic, design development, construction documents and post-permitting stages
Inspect buildings, existing or under construction in person in the field
Travel to sites locally, regionally, and nationally as needed by plane, train, and car – averaging 50%
Provide concise and thoroughly vetted technical responses to internal and external teams in verbal and digital formats
Create detailed reports and communicate results in digital and verbal formats
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external projects teams
Follow up on and participate in business development opportunities digitally and in person
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
A sincere passion for accessibility!
Bachelor’s degree or higher in an architecture, engineering, construction management or closely related field
Minimum of 5 years of recent experience as an accessibility consultant with experience in ADA Title II and/or III, FHA, HUD 504, and IBC and/or state and local specific codes
General knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Powerpoint
Adaptability, flexibility, willingness to learn, attentiveness to detail, organization
Experience with BlueBeam, PlanGrid, AutoDesk Construction Cloud BUILD, Box, and/or Quire or equivalent is preferred
Certifications are highly desirable – ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, APAC-BE, ADAC, RAS
Experience with ABA and UFAS is desirable
