The Associate Director supports the Director of the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility in the administration and operational oversight of operations. This position plays a critical leadership role in advancing the mission of the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility, which seeks to eliminate barriers and ensure access for every member of our community. As part of the Division of Student Affairs and Student Resources and Support Services, the Goldman Center stands by our mission to recognize that great minds think differently.
The Associate Director is primarily responsible for managing the accommodation processes, evaluating disability documentation, and ensuring timely and appropriate implementation of academic accommodations. The Associate Director will manage increasingly complex accommodation requests, including those related to housing and graduate and professional programs such as the health sciences (medical, nursing) and law school.
The Associate Director collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and students to promote practices that uphold both academic integrity and the mission of the Goldman Center to foster a campus environment of accessibility. This position contributes to the strategic goals of the Goldman Center through upholding standards of excellent and timely communications, leadership and supervision, accommodation workflows, and providing expert guidance and outreach to the Tulane community. This position will serve as a key resource for disability-related compliance and accessibility best practices and represent the Goldman Center on university committees related to accessibility. The ability to collaborate across diverse teams is essential. The Associate Director will support during the Director's absence and perform other duties as assigned that advance the Goldman Center's mission.
Strong knowledge of disability-related legislation including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Comprehensive understanding of the academic psychosocial, and functional impacts of various disabilities.
Ability to interpret and assess complex disability documentation and determine appropriate accommodations.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and campus partners.
Experience with accommodations management software (AIM) and data tracking systems.
Ability to develop and deliver training and educational workshops related to accessibility and universal design.
Master's degree in counseling, psychology, education, or another human service field and 1 year of experience working with college students with disabilities (e.g., LD,ADHD)
OR
Bachelor's Degree(in Counseling, Disability Studies, Education, Higher Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or another human service field ) with a minimum of 4 to 5 years of experience working in disability services in a post-secondary setting.
Competent in using Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access).
Able to store and retrieve information from Microsoft Excel and Access databases.
Ability to hire, supervise and evaluate staff.
Adaptability and willingness to learn are highly preferred.
Experience supervising staff in a disability services setting.
Familiarity with assistive technologies and universal design for learning principles.
Knowledge of FERPA regulations as they relate to student records and disability documentation in the higher education setting.
Ability to hold a forward-thinking and collaborative approach to contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement initiatives.
