Location:
In order to protect our employees and help stem the spread of COVID-19, Bixal team members are currently working entirely in a remote capacity. This will be our policy until we believe our employees can safely return to an office environment. However, you will need to undergo a Public Trust Security clearance which will require you to get fingerprinting done in person.

After the threat of COVID-19 has passed, this role will be a mix of onsite with the client in DC and work-from-home.

What will you do?
The 508 Accessibility and Compliance SME will support client projects while simultaneously building Bixal’s community of practice. Your knowledge and experience will enable you to support teams of copywriters and editors in producing 508 compliant documents for our government clients. You will be hands-on with the material and the team. You will produce, audit, and test documents for compliance while also educating team members on how to produce compliant documents.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with content and technology teams regarding accessibility concerns within digital products with a focus on the development of improved digital experiences.
Act as an advocate for accessibility on projects and teams.
Stay abreast of the latest trends in accessibility.
Educate developers, testers, and management of the difficulties that users with disabilities face.
Perform other duties as required.

Web Accessibility Testing
Conduct accessibility evaluations of websites and web applications.
Document and communicate results and recommended improvements to ensure full web accessibility.
Advise the development team on how issues can be fixed.
Participate in the creation of processes, procedures, and documentation related to web accessibility.

Training
Train the web support team on how to review PDFs and other digital content for Section 508 compliance.
Educate the Bixal team and the client on Section 508 compliance and guidelines.
Educate developers and testers on the Section 508 Compliance Guidelines (WCAG2.0) and how to use them to address and identify accessibility issues on applications.

Document Compliance and Remediation
Review and edit PDFs to ensure they meet section 508 compliance
Pilot and utilize software tools to identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and any other document errors as they occur.
Remediate high priority PDFs following WCAG2.0 AA guidance
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Communications, Journalism, English, Special Education, or a related field)
Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident for 3 or more years.
Must be able to undergo and pass a Public Trust Security Clearance.
Minimum 2 years of experience in accessibility and 508 compliance.
Experience testing manually and with commercial web accessibility tools.
Experience piloting tools and suggesting techniques for improvement.
Experience creating accessible digital solutions for individuals with disabilities; ideally in the government sector.
Strong knowledge of accessibility legislation including ADA, Section 504 and Section 508.
Experience with assistive technologies for various disabilities.
