Southampton Education School - Centre for Research in Inclusion
The Centre for Research in Inclusion is seeking to recruit two enthusiastic researchers with previous experience of qualitative research to contribute to work on a prestigious UKRI-funded study ‘Teaching Accessibility in the Digital Skill Set’ under the leadership of UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, Dr Sarah Lewthwaite. This education project explores pedagogical culture and knowledge in relation to the teaching of digital accessibility expertise in computing and technical disciplines and the workplace. This is done to seek practical and theoretical understanding from multiple perspectives. There will be a particular focus on case studies of pedagogical innovation, and on how teachers, trainers and peer-educators develop and make use of available resources.
Within this role, you will be contributing to: recruiting participants (computer science lecturers, teachers and trainers in the tech sector, government and the third sector), working with stakeholders including disabled peoples’ organisations, making practical arrangements, preparing for, conducting and analysing interviews, focus groups based on video-stimulated dialogue, and case studies; as well as writing research papers and reports.
You will have a research interest in teaching and learning and digital accessibility, alongside a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in Education or a highly relevant discipline. You will also need to demonstrate experience of conducting qualitative research, including using interview and video, and writing for publication. As part of the role, you will also be required to travel in the UK and internationally, outside normal office hours including occasional overnight stays for research and conferences.
Two research fellowships are available. The first post is a full-time two-year fixed-term role (24 months at 1.0 FTE). The second post is a one-year fixed-term post (offered either full-time over 12 months, or by arrangement *part-time over a longer term: e.g. 0.5 FTE over 2 years). Both roles are based at Southampton and are available immediately. Please indicate your preferred role in your application.
*For applicants interested in a Part time role, please note: This role is unlikely to support a Certificate of Sponsorship with a part time salary amount (a Certificate of Sponsorship is required to obtain a Tier 2 visa to work in the UK).
Interviews will take place in the week beginning 7th December 2020.
