Etsy is seeking Software Engineers to join our Software Engineering organization.

About the Team

The Accessibility team empowers product teams to launch features and experiments that are accessible-by-design. We are responsible for providing guidance and solving issues regarding how usable our platform (Native and Web) is for users with disabilities. We ensure our user experiences are accessible for buyers and sellers leveraging assistive technologies. We also work side by side with the Design Systems team to ensure that our reusable components are accessible.

Our team is open to both remote candidates and candidates located in Etsy’s Brooklyn HQ.

About the Role


You’ll collaborate with other Product Engineering teams on making new user experiences accessible
You’ll help triage and fix accessibility bugs
You’ll push code in Git and GitHub
You will engage with a wide range of teams to guide their accessibility fixes
You’ll answer questions in Slack and Email regarding new and existing accessibility challenges
You’ll collaborate with our Design Systems teams to implement accessibility as a requirement
You’ll write, maintain, and review code primarily in JavaScript, used in applications built in PHP
You’ll build new experiences that are perhaps invisible to many users but make the world of difference to users using assistive technologies (eg: alt text)
You’ll provide tooling and documentation for Product Engineering teams on how future features may be developed with accessibility in mind from the start


Qualifications


About You

You’re passionate about creating and advocating for accessible experiences
You’re an engineer with experience writing accessible frontend code with a deep knowledge of JavaScript
You have experience using assistive technologies, such as screen readers.
You are comfortable working with legacy code while working towards improving it
You are comfortable collaborating on product experiences with other product teams across the company
You’re interested in observing existing development patterns, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and crafting flexible and maintainable solutions to augment those patterns
You have an appreciation for systems-thinking when it comes to creating reusable code and consistent experiences for our internal teams
You believe that building simple, usable tools that work well together can empower engineers and designers to create better products.
You are mindful of the future and strive to create reliable, documented code that other people–or you, six months into the future–will find easy to comprehend and modify.
You might have experience collaborating with design systems teams
