Accessibility Specialist (Document & Digital Accessibility – WCAG 2.1 AA)

A mission-driven public sector organization is seeking an Accessibility Specialist to support a critical accessibility initiative ahead of an upcoming federal compliance deadline. This role will focus on reviewing, testing, and remediating digital content, including documents, web pages, and applications, to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.

The Team
* A statewide government agency responsible for promoting travel to the state, highlighting its culture, landscapes, and attractions through marketing campaigns and partnerships with local communities and businesses. Its efforts aim to increase visitor spending and support economic growth tied to tourism.

Major Duties
* Remediate and optimize PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility guidelines
* Conduct accessibility testing using screen readers and assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
* Evaluate websites and applications for accessibility issues and document findings
* Create remediation tickets or directly resolve accessibility issues where appropriate
* Perform accessibility audits using tools such as WAVE, ANDI, or similar testing tools
* Collaborate with internal teams and IT staff to identify accessibility barriers and implement solutions
* Ensure digital content aligns with accessibility best practices and federal compliance standards

What We’re Looking For
* Experience with digital accessibility testing and remediation
* Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines
* Hands-on experience with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver
* Experience remediating Microsoft Office and PDF documents
* Familiarity with accessibility auditing tools (WAVE, ANDI, or similar)
* Ability to clearly document accessibility findings and recommended fixes
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to inclusive design

Opportunity Details
* Compensation Rate: $34/hour
* Duration: Contract through the end of May
* Worksite Location: Santa Fe, NM (Onsite)
* Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
* Priority: Work supports an upcoming April 24 federal accessibility compliance deadline
