Senior Accessibility Specialist – Technology

12-month contract | Up to £600 per day (Inside IR35) | Remote

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accessibility Specialist to help shape and grow a digital accessibility programme across the UK and EU. You will be part of a dedicated accessibility team that supports researchers, scientists, clinicians, and digital product teams worldwide.

In this role, you will guide teams through all phases of the software development cycle (design, development, testing), ensuring compliance with WCAG and other accessibility standards. You will also promote accessibility best practice across a range of digital content including web pages, mobile applications, emails, presentations, multimedia, and PDFs.

Key Responsibilities:

Author VPATs and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) against WCAG 2.2 AA standards
Troubleshoot accessibility issues, advising product teams and recommending appropriate tools
Provide specifications for remediating websites, mobile apps, and PDFs to meet accessibility standards
Partner with developers and UX teams to test, validate, and guide accessible design and code
Write accessibility statements for digital products
Deliver training and creative resources to help colleagues create accessible content
Plan and conduct usability testing with people who experience disability
Build long-term accessibility partnerships across product teams

Requirements:

3+ years’ experience authoring high-quality VPATs/ACRs for enterprise web applications
Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.2 and accessibility best practices for digital content
Hands-on experience with accessibility tools (WAVE, axe, Microsoft Insights, Colour Contrast Analyser) and screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
Ability to work autonomously while collaborating in virtual teams
A positive, collaborative mindset with a passion for mentoring and knowledge-sharing
Experience conducting usability and accessibility research

Preferred:

IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist Certification or US DHS 508 Trusted Tester Certification
Background in Digital Accessibility, User Experience, Digital Design, or Software Engineering
Experience with mobile application accessibility testing and techniques
Familiarity with UI design patterns including rich internet applications, single-page applications, and conversational AI/chatbots
Examples of previous accessibility audits or ACRs
