POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Accessibility & Digital Compliance Specialist – McMinnville Campus (Part-Time)
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology - McMinnville is accepting applications for the part-time position of Accessibility & Digital Compliance Specialist for the McMinnville Campus.
POSITION INFORMATION:
Position Type: Part-Time
Hours: 15 hours per week
Compensation: $25 per hour
Work hours are flexible; however, this is **not** a remote position.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution; related experience may substitute where appropriate.
•Basic knowledge of document software (Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, PDF tools).
•Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
•Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
•Valid driver’s license and ability to drive truck with trailer and operate forklift equipment safely.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Experience with digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 or later, Section 508).
•Experience reviewing or completing VPATs.
•Familiarity with assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, screen magnification tools).
•Experience in higher education, government, or compliance-focused environment.
•Knowledge of learning management systems and web content management systems.
GENERAL DUTIES: The Accessibility & Digital Compliance Specialist ensures institutional materials, technologies, and digital resources meet accessibility standards and support equal access for all students, employees, and community users. The position reviews documents and electronic content, completes and approves accessibility documentation (including VPATs), supports IT accessibility efforts, and assists with records scanning and related administrative tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Digital Accessibility Compliance
•Review electronic documents, web content, course materials, and multimedia for accessibility compliance (WCAG and Section 508 standards).
•Remediate or coordinate remediation of inaccessible PDFs, Word documents, presentations, forms, and media.
•Provide guidance and training to faculty and staff on creating accessible content.
•Maintain accessibility checklists, procedures, and institutional documentation.
VPAT Review and Approval
•Evaluate software and technology purchases for accessibility compliance.
•Complete, review, and approve Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs).
•Coordinate with vendors to obtain accessibility documentation and clarifications.
•Maintain institutional records of VPATs and accessibility evaluations.
•Provide accessibility recommendations during procurement and technology adoption.
IT Accessibility Support
•Collaborate with Information Technology staff to ensure systems meet accessibility requirements.
•Assist with testing websites, applications, and platforms using assistive technologies (screen readers, keyboard navigation, color contrast tools, etc.).
•Help troubleshoot accessibility barriers reported by students or employees.
•Support implementation of accessibility improvements in learning management systems and institutional software.
Document & Records Support
•Perform document scanning and digital file preparation.
•Ensure scanned materials meet accessibility and readability standards (OCR processing, tagging, structure).
•Maintain organized electronic records in accordance with institutional procedures.
Additional Responsibilities
•Assist with accessibility-related projects and reporting.
•Support compliance with ADA, Section 504, and Section 508 requirements.
•Serve as a campus resource for accessibility questions and referrals.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
