Job Description

Sample Duties: Develop and implement organizational accessibility strategies aligned with legal standards and best practices (e.g., ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative, WCAG, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). Conduct accessibility audits of physical spaces, digital platforms, communications, and internal systems. Partner with product, facilities, IT, and communications teams to ensure accessible design and user experiences. Lead initiatives that improve access to services, programs, and workplace tools. Design and manage initiatives that foster a sense of belonging and psychological safety across teams. Partner with leadership and employee committees to build community programs. Partner with learning & development to create and deliver training on accessibility practices and belonging. Develop practices that promote equitable participation and representation. Provide guidance to managers on leadership focused on accessibility and belonging and accommodation processes. Develop toolkits and resources to help teams embed accessibility and belonging into everyday work. Track key metrics related to accessibility, belonging, and employee engagement. Use data, feedback, and audits to identify improvement opportunities. Prepare reports and recommendations for leadership. Serve as a subject matter expert on accessibility and belonging across the organization. Collaborate with HR, marketing, and facilities teams to integrate accessible and belonging practices. Stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, and regulations related to accessibility and accessibility and belonging. Coordinates cross-departmental teams, approved programs, projects, and strategic initiatives, bringing together stakeholders to drive recommendations Participates as a member of the Management Team; contributes to strategic planning, conducts staff meetings and contributes to staff education programs; represents the library at professional meetings Develops and manages the department’s projects within approved budgets, ensuring compliance with goals and guidelines in support of strategic objectives Follows organizational, County, and public health and safety guidelines and protocols and performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures Attends and participates in staff, and professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and best practices Greets, engages, and assists diverse customers of the Library in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner; successfully ascertains individualized needs and/or requirements for each customer Learns and consistently applies the Richland Library’s Brand Promises providing outgoing, genuine, and high-quality customer service to all internal and external customers Expands understanding and knowledge by attending workshops, conferences, trainings, and self-directed learning reflective of the organization's mission and Accessibility and Belonging initiatives May be required to work outside of standard business hours, including nights and weekends based on organizational responsibilities and job requirements Supervisory Responsibilities: Assesses and monitors workload; identifies opportunities for improvement and implements changes Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; promotes an environment of staff growth and development and works with employees to correct deficiencies; recommends promotions and discipline and initiates termination activities per established policies and procedures Oversees and participates in the development and administration of the departmental budget; approves the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in related discipline; supplemented by five (5) years of directly related experience including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Must possess and maintain a valid State of South Carolina Driver’s License and the ability to drive a Library owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Preferred Qualifications: At least five (5) years of directly related experience in accessibility and belonging, Certification in accessibility or belonging. Experience working with Employee Resource Committees (ERGs) or Employee Committees. Location, Salary & Hours: Where:Richland Library Main, 1431 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29201 Salary:$70,000 plus excellent benefits. Hours:37.5 hours per week to include some nights and weekends: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Job Role & Level: L2; Pay Grade & Salary Band: 7; FLSA Status: Exempt Richland Library may change location and schedule of any library job.
