Job Description
**Accessibility Specialist – Digital Accessibility & Compliance (3-5 years of experience)** **Role Summary** The Accessibility Specialist is responsible for remediating and validating course materials to meet digital accessibility standards beyond the capacity of student workers. This role ensures that instructional materials comply with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines and pass institutional accessibility checkers such as Ally or Panorama. **Key Responsibilities** - Remediate course materials including PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint files, and images - Apply proper tagging, heading structures, table semantics, and alt text - Evaluate materials using Ally and/or Panorama within PRAC shells - Interpret accessibility reports and address underlying issues (not just surface scores) - Partner with Instructional Designers to advise on accessible content creation - Conduct quality checks to ensure remediated materials are usable with assistive technologies - Document remediation approaches and recurring accessibility issues **Required Skills & Experience** - Demonstrated expertise in WCAG 2.1 AA standards - Strong hands-on experience with PDF remediation (Adobe Acrobat Pro) - Proficiency in making Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents accessible - Experience using Ally and/or Panorama accessibility tools - Ability to work independently with high accuracy under time constraints **Nice-to-Have Skills** - Familiarity with screen readers and assistive technologies - Experience supporting accessibility initiatives in higher education **Success Indicators** - Consistently accessible materials with minimal rework - Positive validation results from Ally/Panorama - Reduced accessibility-related risk for the institution
