Job Description

The Accessible Document Specialist is a part-time contractor role with our Accessibility Team designed to interface with our corporate clientele. The successful candidate will provide our corporate clients with a personalized approach to their accessible document services, in line with our commitment to human-based accessibility. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary depending on client demand. Work is assigned on a project-by-project basis, and contractors are expected to be available to respond to client needs within reasonable timeframes. Key Responsibilities Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1. Remediating inaccessible documents. 2. Reviewing documents to assess the level of remediation reached. 3. Providing reports on the level of accessibility of given documents. 4. Managing the flow of client services from initial meeting through report presentations. 5. Meeting with clients to discuss the findings of their documents, and to review potential remediation approaches. 6. Meeting with clients to deliver personalized coaching on basic accessible document practices, helping them understand and apply accessibility principles. Skills, Traits and Competencies Education • Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, information technology, graphic design, disability studies, or related area) is preferred. Equivalent professional experience and/or IAAP certification may be considered in lieu of formal education. Experience • Minimum 3 years’ experience in accessible document remediation. Work examples required during hiring process. Verbal recommendation from at least one past contract experience • Advanced knowledge of Adobe, Microsoft and InDesign products. • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Specialty Focus • Basic knowledge of digital accessibility measurements: WCAG, Section 508 and Title II of the Americans with Disability Act a plus. • Living with one or more disabilities is preferred for this role but is not a requirement Certifications • International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Accessible Document Specialist (ADS) certification is preferred but not required. • Additional certification as a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) is a plus.
