Do you have an interest in disability, accessibility, and accommodations? This position brings technology knowledge together with access. The McBurney Disability Resource Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is recruiting for a versatile, innovative, and curious technologist to join our collaborative team in a unique position supporting a variety of current and emerging technology areas related to student accommodations and accessibility. This position will report to and work in conjunction with the Associate Director of Accommodations and Technology. This position’s area of responsibility will be to select, set up, document, train, and troubleshoot technology/systems to maintain an accessible, efficient, scalable, usable, and secure technology environment. The primary areas of work will leverage a dynamic blend of expertise in information technology, assistive technology, instructional technology, accessible web development, customer service, and data analysis. Well-qualified candidates will demonstrate an in-depth technical understanding of a variety of technology (hardware, software, operating systems, and management tools), be skilled at figuring out new systems and unfamiliar technology (including reading technical documentation), and be able to apply knowledge related to accessibility, security, and scalability to implement effective systems. Candidates should have a flexible, solutions-focused approach and skills to cover a variety of standard duties that will evolve with time, while also assisting the team where needed. _Areas of work within the responsibilities may include:_ * _Managing deployment and updating of equipment loaned to students (e.g., configuring MDM for iPads used for student notetaking accommodations); developing and maintaining accurate inventory of technology loaned to students, staff, and instructors_ * _Managing technical & data aspects of the Center’s student accommodations database vendor solution (AIM) and providing related support to students, McBurney Center staff, and instructors_ * _Setting up and maintaining technology used by students for exam accommodations_ * _Working with students, instructors, and staff to research, test, and implement technology solutions for unique accommodations_ * _Working with the team to align the intersection of digital accessibility efforts with individual student accommodations, as technology continues to evolve_ * _Using assistive technology to test and document accessibility barriers with websites, apps, and documents; assisting with new ADA Title II rule for accessibility of web content and mobile apps_ * _Working with vendors and campus IT to identify technical specifications and integration for new assistive and accessibility technologies_ * _Developing and writing documentation for McBurney Center technology processes_ * _Developing and editing accessible web pages in WordPress, accessible documents, and trainings used by students, staff, instructors, visitors, and program participants_ * _Providing a local level of desktop support and coordinating support with central IT; on/off boarding staff from IT systems; maintaining replacement cycle and inventory of staff and program computers; creating and maintaining accounts & access_ * _Helping to investigate and determine the use of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), in the work to adapt to a changing ecosystem_ * _Hiring and supervising student workers, if needed_ ## **Key Job Responsibilities:** * Monitors deadlines and work flow processes to ensure delivery of services * Tests, troubleshoots, and resolves issues post-implementation * Converts materials (print, electronic documents, video, and/or audio) into alternative formats by utilizing technological mediums and various strategies * Selects and implements technology solutions, and develop and updates processes * Queries databases for Center stats, records retention, and service evaluation * Develops and edits: accessible web pages in WordPress, documents, and trainings * Works in and helps cover for staff in Adaptive Technology Services and Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Services, as needed (e.g. Alternative Formats accessible material conversion and on call tech support for DHH service providers and students across campus) ## **Department:** Student Affairs, Student Success and Belonging, McBurney Disability Resource Center The McBurney Disability Resource Center is the office for students with disabilities and classroom accommodations on the UW-Madison campus. As part of the student accommodation process, we work collaboratively with students and instructors to provide and support effective student accommodations. The McBurney Disability Resource Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. We work with over 5,700 students annually, have a strong collaborative team, and partner with students, instructors, staff, student organizations, and others across campus. ## **Compensation:** The expected minimum starting salary for this position is $61,000.00 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
