ADA Digital Accessibility Specialist

[The ADA Digital Accessibility Specialist supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by evaluating ADA Compliance for web content and planning, organizing, and conducting training programs.](https://calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jobs/JobPostingPrint.aspx?jcid=454158) This position evaluates CDPH web pages and content to ensure they comply with the State of California's web accessibility requirements, as outlined in California Government Code Section 11135, ADA Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. The ADA Digital Accessibility Specialist will uses tools like Adobe Acrobat, WAVE, Color Contrast Analyzer, NVDA Screen Reader, and keyboard navigation while following federal and state guidelines to check for accessibility. The incumbent works under the general direction of the Information Officer II in the Office of Communications (COMMS) Web Team. The ADA Digital Accessibility Specialist collaborates, researches, develops and reviews web page content to ensure accessibility, consistency of message, quality of content and proper information organization prior to and following publishing. Incumbent ensures that all CDPH projects and activities comply with the State of California's web accessibility requirements. The ADA Digital Accessibility Specialist creates, updates and develops customized training programs for specific internal groups to improve teamwork and efficiency. The Incumbent will educate and provide web staff with technical support in creating accessible web content such as documents, data dashboards, web applications, videos, and social media campaigns according to department standards before these are published online. This role is crucial in maintaining a high-quality, user-friendly website that effectively serves all visitors. Telework Information This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment.
