We're looking for an outstanding Section 508 Document Accessibility Specialist to join our Editorial team. Our office is currently operating virtually. This position is open to permanent virtual work.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for someone with an understanding of document accessibility, strong computer skills, a sharp eye for detail, and a strong command of written English to modify PDF, PowerPoint (PPT), and Word documents so they comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and are accessible to people with disabilities.

Remediate PDFs using Adobe Acrobat so they meet the requirements of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Section 508 Accessibility checklists, pass both the Acrobat and PDF Accessibility Checkers (PAC3), and are readable using screen reader software such as JAWS or NVDA
Conduct quality control reviews on PDFs to ensure they are Section 508 compliant
Review and remediate PPT and Word documents to ensure they are Section 508 compliant
Collaborate with coworkers in finding solutions to technical problems
Qualifications:
Some college or military experience required; bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
Minimum three years of experience in an office environment performing 508 compliance
Experience remediating PDF documents for Section 508 compliance; experience with 508 remediation of PowerPoint presentations strongly preferred
Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro or DC
Strong MS Word and PowerPoint skills; familiarity with JAWS or NVDA screen readers is a plus
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work quickly and accurately, under deadline pressure
Strong command of English spelling, punctuation, and grammar
Innate customer service mentality
Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively
You’ll earn bonus points if you have:
Working knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Familiarity with HHS Section 508 requirements, experience using Axes PDF, CommonLook, Acrobat- or PAC3-accessibility checkers
Document design experience
DHS Trusted Tester certification
HTML and/or other programming skills
Editing or proofreading experience
Experience working in a government contracting environment
