Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to fill the position of Digital Content Specialist in the Office of Communications.

This position is responsible for but not limited the following:

Ensuring that accurate information is posted via the agency website for school divisions, stakeholders and the general public.
Developing and posting electronic resources that comply with approved state and agency information architecture and web design and communications standards.
Providing web design presentation and production consultation with VDOE staff in the development of web-based resources to meet agency goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience with responsive layout and design theory and technology.
Experience with assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA or other speech recognition software.
Extensive experience in using UX design and content strategy best practices to design solutions.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop; Illustrator and InDesign a plus).
Demonstrates experience with newsletter and digital content best practices, newsletter platforms and analytics, publishing tools, analytics tools and social marketing technology and platforms.
Demonstrates experience with website design, development, and maintenance - including and content management systems, HTML and CSS.
Strong working knowledge of creating and remediating accessible web content (HTML, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, and video) including WAI-ARIA, WCAG 2.0, and Section 508.
Strong project management, organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally, and in writing, with technical and non-technical end users.
Demonstrates ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals with differing and competing Web content priorities.
Ability to work independently while exercising professional judgement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in media arts and design, mass communications, graphic design, English or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with PDF Accessibility troubleshooting is a plus.
