Job Description
·Review and edit digital content—including exhibition scripts, captions, narrative panels, and educational resources—for grammar, spelling, clarity, and voice consistency.
· Ensure tone and style align with NMAAHC’s inclusive, educational, and historically grounded mission.
· Collaborate with content strategists to refine narrative structure and ensure coherence across digital platforms.
· Apply plain language best practices and readability standards to support accessibility for diverse audiences, including students and lifelong learners.
· Conduct line editing and copyediting for digital content imported into the CMS, ensuring consistency across multiple exhibitions and online experiences.
· Work with stakeholders to finalize written materials prior to digital publication and ensure content adheres to Smithsonian brand standards.
· Support editorial workflows and content QA during agile development cycles and content sprints.
· Ensure that all content complies with WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility requirements (Revised Section 508).
Contribute to the unification of voice and tone across the Searchable Museum platform.
Experience
· 3–5 years of professional experience in copyediting or content editing for digital platforms.
· Demonstrated excellence in grammar, punctuation, syntax, and editing for clarity and style.
· Experience working with museum, historical, or educational content—particularly related to African American history and culture.
· Familiarity with digital storytelling formats, exhibition scripting, and online editorial best practices.
· Experience editing content in Craft CMS or similar content management systems.
· Experience editing content for diverse audiences with a focus on inclusive and culturally sensitive language.
· Strong understanding of content accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.0 and plain language principles.
· Familiarity with editorial workflows in content-rich environments (e.g., museums, educational institutions, media organizations)
· Proficiency with collaborative content tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft Word/Track Changes, CMS platforms).
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple editorial projects concurrently.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,639.00 - $90,234.00 per year
