User Experience Engineer II

Do you dream of exotic destinations? Do you love visiting new and favorite places? Come join the Flights Experience Engineering team and build interfaces and APIs to power the traveler experience for Flights! We have teams in Seattle, USA, Chicago, USA, Guadalajara, Mexico, and Gurgaon, India.


As a Flights Experience Engineer, you will have direct impact on the experience our travelers use every day to shop for Flights. You will build and support the Flights Search, Details, and Servicing pages which have high visibility on Expedia Group brands and receive > 1 million requests per day. You will create features which enable our travelers to compare across flight options and airlines to find the best flight for their needs, provide them with options such as seat selection and baggage choices, and show them how to use credits for a previously canceled trip. You can have a real impact on these features and more, and bring your ideas to make the Expedia flights experience even better!


What you’ll do:

Reach out to meet peers across environment and collaborate to solve problems

Use opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area.

Seek knowledge from subject matter experts when needed.

Understand the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process.

Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, and modular with good naming conventions.

Prototype basic flows to solve customer needs.

Help coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues.

Apply formal training methods to current workload and feel comfortable challenging authority/the status quo.

Report clearly on current work status.

Ask challenging questions when empowered to do so.

Consult available data to understand customer needs, motivations and challenges.

Who you are:

Hold a degree in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

Have 2+ years of experience of software development in a team environment of at least 5 engineers (agile, version control, etc.).

Experienced with React or similar UI frameworks/libraries.

Experienced building features or components from a UI visual specification.

Familiar with GraphQL and REST APIs and API design.

Familiar with Kotlin/Java.

Understands the concept of mocks and how to use mocks for testing.

Have led small, well-defined projects or features and continue as a supporting player on complex projects.

Proactively identify inefficiencies in existing systems.

Demonstrates familiarity with how to make individual components and application sections accessible (a11y) and localized (l10n).

Experience testing and monitoring your own code.

Experienced debugging applications.

Creates effective automation tests.
