Web Accessibility Specialist

This position ensures that all accessibility projects across Continuing Education (CE) comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards. This includes courses for BYU Online, Independent Study University, Independent Study High School, BYU Online High School, and many courses offered on BYU campus, as well as other areas of CE.

What you’ll do in this position:

Manage the workflow and personnel utilized to ensure accessibility reviews and tasks are completed within established Service-Level Agreement (SLA) deadlines.

Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and manage accessibility student staff and team leads, including work assignments and performance actions.

Oversee workflow to ensure accessibility processes are followed and SLA deadlines are met while fostering a productive work environment.

Conduct accessibility testing (WCAG 2.1 A/AA, federal requirements), identify barriers, and recommend best practices for instructional materials and technologies.

Monitor course accessibility, develop assessment reports, and collaborate with committees and professional groups to promote standards and best practices.


Manage relationships with third-party suppliers for accessibility:

Maintain Independent Contractor Agreements and ensure updated compliance requirements are reflected in vendor documents and processes.

Coordinate course exchanges, manage third-party files, review invoices/expense reports for accuracy, and provide necessary access/resources to vendors.

Research and resolve complex accessibility questions in collaboration with external suppliers.


Research, training, and miscellaneous:

Update and develop accessibility training materials (e.g., Canvas, transcription) and educate instructional designers on accessibility standards and solutions.

Maintain accessibility documentation and FAQs; provide accessibility support for courses and non-course entities (e.g., PDFs, websites).

Support university partners including the Online Course Review Committee, Accommodations team, and Marketing (RFPs) with accessibility-related needs.


What qualifies you for this role:

Required

A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
1 year of experience, OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and ability in project management to bring projects to a successful conclusion.
Experience working with HTML and CSS.

Preferred

3 years of experience related to the above-described duties.
Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 A/AA standards.
Experience working in learning management systems.

Pay Grade: 52
Typical Starting Pay: $65,500 - $84,500

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
