The Digital Accessibility Office invites applications for a Digital Accessibility Services Coordinator to provide support for a variety of accessibility operations and services. These include coordinating the day-to-day operations of the campus captioning service (including the fulfillment and management of captioning accommodations for students), as well as reviewing and managing related requests.

The position provides a wide range of opportunities for collaboration with campus partners (Disability Services, Office of Information Technology, the ADA coordinator’s office, etc.) at a flagship university with a broad portfolio of groundbreaking projects in instruction, technology, and academic support.

Who We Are
The goal of the DAO is to improve the accessibility of the digital campus environment and increase opportunities for participation in the digital life of the university for individuals with disabilities by:

Supporting faculty and staff in delivering digital services and content to individuals with disabilities.
Supporting and evaluating compliance with university policies on digital accessibility.
Directly supporting specific users.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Captioning:

Manage all captioning requests and inquiries in a timely manner.
Maintain an understanding of vendor service offerings and prices, and manage captioning integrations with OIT services.
Assist with tracking monthly captioning expenses and invoice approvals.
Support efforts to reduce captioning costs through vendor evaluations, research, and testing.
Educate members of campus about captioning requirements, tools, and workflows through documentation and consultations.

Project Support:

Provide support for evaluating and using vendors and related software tools, and for DAO accessibility tools and services.
Review Qualtrics accessibility exception requests and work with OIT to fulfill them.
Provide backup support for other operational and project work.

What We Can Offer

The hiring range for this position is $56,000 - $65,000 annually.

What We Require

Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and/or experience.
One year of experience in any of the following:
Customer support in an information technology field.
Digital accessibility consultation, training, or remediation work.
Captioning management.

What You Will Need

Excellent writing skills with attention to style and grammar.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Organizational and time management skills; ability to track and manage a variety of requests or cases simultaneously.
Ability to learn to perform technical work involving a range of file types and software.
Ability to provide customer support in a thoughtful, courteous, and timely way.
Ability to translate technical issues to non-technical audiences and communicate information at the appropriate level for the recipient’s knowledge.

What We Would Like You To Have

Familiarity or experience with creating captions or working with captioning vendors.
Familiarity with captioning quality standards.
Familiarity with current WCAG standards and accessibility principles.
Experience with expense tracking or other detailed, time-sensitive work.
Computer programming experience, especially experience working with Canvas’s API, Rev’s API, 3play’s API, AST’s API, and/or Google Workspace/Google App Script.
Experience managing student workers.
Familiarity with PDF accessibility remediation.
