Job Description:
The OPS Web Accessibility Developer will support the University of Florida College of Education in preparing its web properties to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards for accessibility compliance, in accordance with Florida state legislation for public universities. This role is focused on auditing, documenting, and remediating accessibility issues across a range of College-managed websites.
Working on-site as part of the College's web team, this position will assess accessibility gaps, identify areas of non-compliance, and implement technical fixes within WordPress-based sites and custom web environments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, familiar with accessibility testing tools, and able to make both front-end and code-based updates where needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
Accessibility Auditing & Reporting
Conduct audits of College of Education websites using accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., WAVE, axe, Siteimprove, Lighthouse)
Identify barriers to accessibility related to color contrast, navigation, keyboard use, screen reader compatibility, and semantic HTML
Create issue logs and remediation recommendations for each web property reviewed
Accessibility Remediation & Implementation
Update code, markup, and styles to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards
Modify and implement accessibility features in existing WordPress themes and templates
Collaborate with ETC developers and content editors to resolve accessibility issues across digital content
Collaboration & Documentation
Work with ETC's web team to prioritize remediation tasks based on user impact and site traffic.
Document changes and solutions to support ongoing accessibility maintenance.
Provide feedback and guidance to content editors and stakeholders when updates require non-technical support.
This is an on-site, time-limited OPS position funded by the College of Education
Expected Salary:
$15.00 hourly
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in an appropriate field and at least 2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA standards and web accessibility best practices
Experience with HTML, CSS, and accessible front-end development
Familiarity with WordPress and common accessibility testing tools
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in web design, computer science, or related field
Experience remediating accessibility issues in higher education or government environments
Working knowledge of ARIA roles, semantic HTML, and screen reader testing
Ability to clearly communicate technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
