Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
Working Flexibly
The Digital Accessibility Analyst will be part of the centralised Digital Accessibility Team and will act as a subject matter expert (SME), working closely with business and technology teams to help them to deliver accessible products for our customers and colleagues.
The role holder will:
Help strengthen governance and controls by partnering with and policing new digital change to ensure they are compliant with Barclays accessibility standards.
Provide ongoing accessibility support and training to engineering teams, ensuring new changes are appropriately accessibility tested.
Accelerate adoption of automated accessibility testing tools and usage of accessible component libraries
Have a primary focus on our most critical digital platforms such as our Online Banking website and the Barclays mobile app – accelerating the remediation of legacy accessibility issues and performing robust accessibility testing on new changes so as to be built accessible right first time.
What will you be doing?
. Digital Accessibility Governance (50%)
Works alongside Agile Product and Waterfall Project teams to provide expert guidance and accessibility testing so as to ensure accessibility is fully embedded in product development across the organisation
Acts as a control SME for accessibility through the development Lifecycle, ensuring that effective project governance exists.
Takes a pragmatic, risk-based approach to testing and prioritisation of issues
Manages and delivers a range of accessibility solutions to enable the accessible delivery of products including design reviews, audits, consultancy and signposting to training and tools.
Promotes the accessibility governance process, ensuring that compliance with our standards, processes and policies are maintained across all product and project interactions.
Supports product teams engaging with suppliers to fully understand the requirements of suppliers to deliver accessible products
Acts as the voice of the customer through all interactions with product and project teams
2. Business Partnering (20%)
Effective relationship management to ensure that business teams understand, value and demand accessibility whilst equipping and enabling delivery teams with the right empathy, knowledge and support to deliver inclusive solutions
Supports forums and feedback measures to consult with customers and colleagues with disabilities and better understand their needs, experiences and issues
Builds positive relationships with technology and business teams to help deliver our accessibility ambitions – effectively influencing to prioritise accessibility in all interactions
Partners with Diversity & Inclusion, Accessibility and Vulnerable Customer proposition teams and the Reach Disability and Mental Health colleague network to ensure collaboration and new approaches to delivering our ambitions.
3. Accessibility Capability (20%)
Work in partnership with Digital Accessibility consultants to:
Seek opportunities to improve processes, systems and controls used within the overarching accessibility governance process
Develop new ways of working that build capacity within the Digital Accessibility Team to help us deliver better outcomes and outputs
Support our Accessibility Academy training programme. including training development and delivery, design of new resources and maintenance of digital accessibility knowledge base
Supports the growth of our accessibility champions to become a knowledgeable and scalable resource
Supports the development of the team and other colleagues – sharing knowledge, best practices and seeking opportunities for personal development in others.
4. External outreach and partnership (10%)
Work in partnership with the wider Digital Accessibility team to:
Develop relationships with external organisations including charities, best practice organisations and other corporates in order to share best practices and progress the overall accessibility agenda
Represent Barclays at external events and conferences – helping to share our expertise, build our brand in the industry and build relationships with new and existing contacts
What we’re looking for:
Good knowledge of web and mobile technologies, including HTML, CSS And JavaScript
Basic understanding of accessibility principles, requirements and testing
Understanding of accessibility and usability for people with a broad range of disabilities including familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers)
Strong communications, influencing and team-working skills.
Skills that will help you in the role:
Experience of completing accessibility testing aligned to international WCAG 2.1 guidelines using manual and automated techniques for web and mobile.
Familiarity with technology project lifecycles (e.g. Agile and Waterfall) and delivering change within these.
Strong interest in digital inclusion and willingness to improve digital products for all users
Analytical and methodical problem solver with an attention to detail.
Achieved IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)
