Welcome to the Boots Digital team – an exciting team at the heart of Boots UK’s growth plans.

Come and join our growing team of user experience designers (UX) and researchers (UR) to help build digital products that put accessibility at the forefront of product development.

You’ll work closely with our UX Leads, Developers/Engineers and Test Team to ensure successful delivery of a repeatable accessibility curriculum across various capability groups, and ensure our people are empowered to create accessible experiences across various Boots services and products.

About the role:

You’ll work closely with our UX Leads, Developers, Engineers and Test Team to ensure successful delivery of a repeatable accessibility curriculum across various capability groups, and ensure our people are empowered to create accessible experiences across various Boots services and products.

You'll be responsible for advocating accessibility for people with impairments and disabilities who interact with our products and services, whilst also providing accessibility support in the design, development, and deployment phases of our projects.

About the opportunity:

Be a champion of accessibility in digital, providing accessibility guidance to design and product teams to help ensure good practice within an agile environment throughout the product life cycle and our design system.
Hold teams accountable to current accessibility standards and stay up to date with best practices and improvements while improving knowledge within teams.
Be a key representative within the Boots Disability Business Resource Group and working with accessibility partners such as DAC, whilst continuing to develop and widen our partner network.
Support with recruitment and planning of research projects to include a diverse audience alongside the user researcher, with the opportunity to be involved in running usability sessions, too.
Carry out accessibility audits on our websites and mobile app, using automated tools and manual testing
Working in conjunction with the user testing team and design operations manager to identify accessibility barriers and provide technical solutions to our developers and engineers.
Explore capabilities of our digital products/services, identify strategic opportunities, and present your findings to key stakeholders to drive accessibility forward.
Upskill, educate, and empower the wider UX team as our Subject Matter Expert in accessibility, advocating the importance of accessibility and its harmony with interface and interaction.


What you’ll need to have:

Good understanding and experience of using a variety of assistive technologies such as JAWS, DRAGON, ZoomText, NVDA, VoiceOver etc.
Knowledge of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1)
Good understanding of programming languages including - HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Expert proficiency across desktop and mobile devices, and across a range of OS and browsers.
Previous experience with producing accessibility documentation/guidelines for variety of teams and stakeholders.
Clear and confident communicator who is passionate about being an advocate for users with impairments and disabilities.
Accessibility certification is a bonus: IAAP CPACC, WAS, CPWA, or the DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester designation.
