Student Accessibility Specialist

The Accessibility Specialist assists with ensuring online course content is accessible for all users. This position will work closely with OEET’s Learning Experience Designers and Interactive Media Designers to ensure content that is presented in online courses is accessible.

Project Responsibilities:

Advancing the University’s accessibility efforts by conducting accessibility checks and remediating course accessibility issues (e.g., captioning videos, remediating pdfs and other types of documents, and providing alternative text for images) Developing course-related pages or sites, including assessments, activities, and other materials to support the learning outcomes of the course, meet Butler quality standards, and adhere to federal regulations
Creating multimedia such as instructional videos, graphics, charts, maps, slide presentations, animations, and other interactive media
Collaborating with instructional designers and other stakeholders to ensure quality and accuracy of course materials



Preferred Qualifications

Sophomore standing or higher
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
Effective communication and technical problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Willingness to learn new technologies and stay up to date on industry trends



About the Digital Transformation Ambassador (DXA) Program & OEET

Digital Transformation Ambassadors (DXA) is a student employment program within the Online Education and Educational Technology office (OEET). DXA Students are broadly trained across a spectrum of digital tools and strategies.

OEET serves as the university’s hub for digital learning innovation and educational technology stewardship. OEET collaborates with colleges to design and develop high-quality online courses and programs that reflect best practices in instructional design and accessibility standards. In addition to course development, OEET promotes quality standards for online courses through established processes and procedures to ensure University and accreditation requirements are met. Additionally, OEET is instrumental in forming academic partnerships, both within and outside the university, to create opportunities for collaboration and growth.

OEET is also responsible for overseeing and maintaining the university’s learning management system (Canvas) and other educational technology platforms, evaluating and implementing new technologies to enhance teaching and learning, and providing technical support and training for faculty and academic staff on educational technology tools, such as Canvas, Panopto, and Zoom.

Hours

The hours per week for this position are 10, with the possibility of working additional hours as desired. This position also has the option of being remote for Summer 2025.
