Director of Accessibility Resources

The Drew University’s Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is seeking a Director of Accessibility Resources. The Director is responsible for evaluating documentation and approving accommodations for students with documented disabilities enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts, Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, and the Theological School. In providing and determining eligibility for accommodations, this position fulfills the University’s legal responsibilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Director collaborates with other CAE staff to support the academic success of students and provides consultation, information, resources, and training workshops to faculty, staff, and students and prospective students and parents as needed. The Director also participates in the University’s Critical Intervention Response Team.

This is a 12-month position, reporting to the Associate Provost and Director of the Center for Academic Excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Approve and coordinate reasonable accommodations in compliance with ADA Section 504 in consultation with the Associate Provost and Dean’s offices, faculty, and staff. Maintain and manage confidential data and files pertaining to students with disabilities
Serve as liaison among students, faculty, staff (including Health services, Residence Life, Facilities, Public Safety, and Counseling) to insure effective delivery of approved accommodations. Act as a consultant to individual students, faculty, and staff to provide effective services. Hear and facilitate informal resolutions to complaints and/or advise students of applicable grievance procedures.
Initiate, organize, and deliver faculty, staff, and student development workshops on topics such as learning strategies, universal design, disabilities in the classroom, etc. Hear and facilitate informal resolutions to complaints and/or advise students of applicable grievance procedures.
Advise and monitor at-risk students, including students referred by the Associate Provost for the Center for Academic Excellence.
Determine policies and procedures for testing accommodations and oversee staff who assist with coordination of requests and proctoring.
Act as liaison with external agencies in the provision of services to students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.
Participate in and contribute to the assessment of Accessibility Resources

Required Skills and Abilities:
Excellent knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable laws. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with all constituencies is essential.

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree (MA) in special education, psychology, counseling, rehabilitation administration, or a closely related field or equivalent; four to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
