Responsibilities:

The Accessibility Specialist works with the Director of Access & Disability Resources to coordinate and provide a variety of services for students with disabilities. This position advises students with disabilities and monitors their progress; supports students in their use of assistive technology; and serves as a resource to faculty on accommodations, universal design, and assistive technology. The Accessibility Specialist works with faculty to provide accommodations based on the individualized needs of each student in the context of the instructional design of the course. The normal working hours for this position is 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday to Friday).
Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree (psychology, social work, sociology, education, or related field)
At least one year of experience working with people with disabilities
Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel
Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, religious, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of college students, staff, and faculty
Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Proficiency in and knowledge of assistive technology
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of private information according to federal and state regulations
Ability to establish collaborative working relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with disability and access services in a postsecondary institution
Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 Level AA Standards and W3C
Commitment to and previous experience in conflict resolution
Proficiency in screen readers, smartpens, FM systems, and video captioning tools
