POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
Equitable access to instructional materials and assistive technologies is critical to the mission of the Accessibility Director and California Community Colleges. The Accessibility Center Director engages daily with teams of student advocates, college administrators, and software developers to promote assistive technologies, accessibility services, resources, and tools serving all 116 California Community Colleges, with over 3 million students and their support communities.

This Director oversees a team with an annual budget of approximately $1M, to promote technology, tools, and collaborative relationships aimed at improving instructional and assistive technology accessibility and equity. This is a state-wide leadership opportunity with stakeholders from throughout the state, supporting professional associations, advocacy groups, academic and governmental organizations, and the California Community College Chancellor’s Office. The Director works closely with technology teams to ensure accessibility goals are addressed in the design phase for every solution, not added later as an afterthought.

The Accessibility Center Director is responsible for strategies to promote adherence to evolving requirements and best practices, such as WCAG, ADA, and other Federal and State regulations. The position will be presenting, collaborating, evaluating, and answering questions to a broad variety of constituents, driving professional development activities to promote currency with assistive technologies and alternate media, including procurement, self-assessments, scanning tools, and VPAT processes, and providing relevant accessibility feedback to vendors.

The Accessibility Center Director will coordinate review and development of training materials, including webinars and self-paced courses, and promote the adoption of the State-wide Accessibility Standard using the Procedure and Board Policy templates. Statewide travel to support conferences and other outreach is anticipated post-pandemic.

Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
The successful applicant will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre-employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment. The physician will be selected and paid for by the District. Disabilities not related to the essential physical job requirements will not preclude the applicant from being hired.
Education Code § 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he or she is free of active tuberculosis.
As a condition of employment, the position you are applying for will require that you provide fingerprints to the local police department. The fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility. If you should be offered this position you will be asked to sign a payroll deduction form which will authorize the District to deduct the fee charged by the DOJ from your first paycheck.
The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and possibly future vacancies for positions with the same class specification.
