Accessibility Consultant

Digital Harbor Foundation is seeking proposals from a qualified Accessibility Consultant to support the development of a new VR Computer Lab at the Tech Center. This space will introduce youth to mixed reality media and serve as a public-facing resource, opening twice monthly to the community.

The consultant will help ensure the lab’s design, technology, and programming are accessible to people of all abilities, aligning with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG standards. The ideal consultant will have experience in accessible design, inclusive technology, VR or digital accessibility, and staff training. This work directly supports our commitment to equitable STEM access, with a particular focus on youth with disabilities and neurodivergent learners who have historically been excluded from emerging tech spaces.

The Accessibility Consultant will contribute approximately 15–20 hours per month from September through November 2025, not to exceed 48 hours total. The consultant will work closely with the Tech Lab team to ensure the new VR Computer Lab is inclusive, accessible, and aligned with best practices in accessible design and education.

Proposal Requirements

Company/Consultant Profile: Overview of your company or individual experience, highlighting relevant qualifications.

Approach and Methodology: Describe how you plan to manage the scope of work, including your approach to content strategy, collaboration, and review.

Experience and References: Provide examples of similar content strategy or research analysis work. Include at least two references.

Budget: Include a detailed cost breakdown for services, including fees and any additional expenses. Funding available for this role should not exceed $4,800.

Timeline: Outline your proposed timeline, including key milestones for content drafts, reviews, and final delivery.

Accessibility audit report

Recommendations document for hardware, software, and space design

Staff training guide (outline or written recommendations)

Final summary report with prioritized next steps

Timeline & Milestones:

September 2025: Accessibility audit completed; initial recommendations delivered

October 2025: Staff training guide submitted; continued review and consultation

November 2025: Final report delivered with prioritized recommendations

This position is fully in person at the Digital Harbor Foundation office to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Role and Responsibilities

Conducting an accessibility audit of the physical layout, hardware, and software.

Identifying barriers to access for youth and visitors with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities, including neurodivergent learners.

Providing recommendations to ensure compliance with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG standards.

Advising on accessible hardware and software solutions for VR and mixed reality use.

Developing a brief staff training guide or set of recommendations to support inclusive programming and safe engagement with VR technology.

Delivering a final report summarizing findings and prioritized recommendations.

Compensation

Compensation for this consultant position is not to exceed $4,800 with expected work time of 15 to 20 hours a month from August 2025 - October 2025.
