Position Summary*

Under the general supervision of the Program Manager for Accessible Technology Services (ATS), the Web Accessibility Coordinator provides the entire university with leadership and professional technical expertise ensuring the development, revision, publication and maintenance of accessible web and digital content. The Coordinator employs Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), related disability law, and California State University (CSU) policy as each applies to web and digital content accessibility. This position also provides redundancy to the ATS Program manager in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) procurement.



Position Information

User Consultation
Perform accessibility reviews (automated and manual), and provide written remediation recommendations on campus websites, electronic documents (including PDFs) and third-party applications that are being evaluated for purchase by the SF State campus community.
Lead accessibility-testing efforts with campus assistive technology users with disabilities that aid in the accessibility review of campus and third-party websites, web applications and electronic documents.
Provide expert one-to-one technical assistance and lead group training for campus-wide IT personnel (including departmental website developers/editors) and other assigned campus departments regarding accessible website design, electronic document accessibility and the use of assistive software in navigating websites.
Collaborate with the Information Technology Services (ITS) Web Applications team to establish technical specifications and determine subject material to be developed for Web Content Management System (e.g. Drupal) training materials.
Consult with DPRC colleagues to determine the accessibility of third-party software and web applications used in the classroom.
In collaboration with DPRC Staff, consult with campus departments on assuring accessibility of digital materials used at campus events.
In collaboration with ITS, University Communications, and Academic Technology, lead campus efforts to develop and implement campus-wide initiatives for assessing the accessibility of online university resources, creating accessibility standards and implementing best practices when appropriate (e.g., Drupal, iLearn modules, etc.).
Actively participate in appropriate CSU Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) system-wide discussions (e.g. CSU Web Community of Practice) and Web related campus-wide committees that focus on providing disability access to web and digital content.
Collaborate with other CSU campuses and the Chancellor's Office to identify approaches and best practices for compliance with accessibility requirements that pertain to web and digital accessibility. Lead efforts to implement these practices at SF State, when appropriate.
Under the direction of the ATS Program Manager, participate in the strategic planning process for SF State ATI, making annual recommendations for campus-wide implementation of web-based access initiatives.
Provide redundancy support for the ATS Program Manager in technology purchase reviews by helping determine impact, reviewing Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and assisting with procurement forms.
Represent DPRC at campus-wide recruitment and orientation events.

Site Administration
Administer, manage and train users on automated web assessment tool(s) for the campus
(e.g. Compliance Sheriff, AMP, Deque, etc.)
Provide quarterly web accessibility statistics and/or written reports regarding campus-wide website compliance effectiveness to the ATS Program Manager, DPRC Director and ATI Executive Sponsor as requested.
Coordinate the design, administration, and creation of accessible digital content for the DPRC website and collaborate with DPRC colleagues to create accessible marketing content for the website.
Recruit, train, and supervise student assistants in website assessment and digital compliance, including electronic documents and web application assessments.

Development
Develop and maintain current campus-wide best practices for meeting web and electronic,document accessibility compliance requirements.
Maintain currency in practices, procedures and guidelines for compliance with federal and state laws as they relate to website and electronic document accessibility from a strategic, programmatic and operational campus-wide perspective.
Maintain currency with web design trends and user interface frameworks (ex. Bootstrap, Foundation, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications*

A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and
application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor¿s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Skills:
Incumbents at the expert level work almost completely independently on the most complex problems and work assignments. They possess an advanced and comprehensive knowledge of the technical specialty and a working knowledge of related specialties and are able to apply this extensive expertise as a generalist or specialist. Experts are proactive and understand problems from broad, interactive perspective and are able to develop solutions that combine information and ideas in new, unprecedented ways. Incumbents at this level are capable of leading teams and implementation efforts for assigned projects using advanced communication and listening skills.


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or related field, or equivalent to 4 years of accessible website design.
A minimum of two years of experience in accessible website design and development in a professional setting.
Experience using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other web development languages.
-Ability to balance the needs of current web design trends and desires of campus consumers with current accessibility standards and principles.
A minimum of two years of experience in providing one-to-one and group consultation, training and presentations on digital accessibility as applied to higher education.
Experience using Drupal and other web content management systems.
Demonstrated knowledge base in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements regarding information systems, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Working knowledge and skills in the area of assistive technology and access to information resources for individuals with disabilities and how they interface with accessible digital content.
Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Professional, Adobe Creative Cloud and automated web accessibility evaluation tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles as applied to coordinating, evaluating and reporting on campus-wide accessibility projects.
Previous experience working with students and employees with disabilities in higher education
