At Anthology we are always looking for ways to innovate with accessibility. We believe that designing products with accessibility in mind from the start benefits the greatest number of people. We are seeking a Senior Accessibility Specialist to join a group of passionate people helping advance accessibility across our growing array of educational technology products.
As a Senior Accessibility Specialist, you will play a collaborative part in educating and mentoring product teams to implement accessibility across a portfolio of products. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated level of empathy and understanding of disability culture. They will have experience with assistive technology, be strong problem solvers, effective communicators, and engaging trainers. They will be able to promote accessibility in ways that garner empathy and inspire action.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Applying knowledge of disabilities to provide methods to improve usability and accessibility of our products
Mentoring and educating team members on accessibility and usability best practices through conversations, training, and resources
Designing and delivering training around disability, accessibility, how to apply standards, how to use accessibility tools, and other topics as needed
Creating and maintaining accessibility documentation and resources
Collaborating with engineers, designers, and product managers to address accessibility issues
Strategizing innovative ways to continue advancing accessibility initiatives
Collaborating with the accessibility team to iterate on internal processes
Using a combination of screen readers, automated testing tools, and manual testing processes to test products for conformance with accessibility standards and create accessibility conformance reports as necessary
The Candidate:
Required skills/qualifications:
5-8 years of relevant professional experience
Knowledge of modern front-end TypeScript and JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery, AngularJS, React, and Redux
Experience creating engaging training with measurable results
Experience with screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver) and assistive technology (e.g., ZoomText, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.)
Knowledge of accessibility standards and laws including WCAG, Section 508, and EN 301 549
Knowledge of ARIA and HTML
Experience with automated accessibility testing tools (e.g. AXE)
Understanding of different product development processes and Agile methods
Strong experience writing, designing, and deploying scalable software using infrastructure as a code
Fluency in written and spoken English
Preferred skills/qualifications:
3 or more years of professional experience with accessibility
Accessibility certifications (e.g., IAAP WAS)
Knowledge of change management principles and strategies
Experience with project tracking systems like ADO
