Coordinator, Accessibility Services (Central)


FUNCTION: The function of the Accessibility Coordinator is to ensure that the college provides reasonable accommodations for students with a documented disability. The Accessibility Counselor also promotes the continuous improvement in campus infrastructure to adequately accommodate all students with disabilities.

Essential Job Functions:
Provide educational planning, registration assistance, and support in accessing and navigating institutional requirements for students receiving disability services through retention and completion activities.
Coordinate the accommodation application process for students with disabilities and ensure appropriate accommodations are provided by working with faculty and staff.
Track and verify services provided to qualified students through Banner and Maxient by maintaining comprehensive student records as mandated by federal requirements.
Plan and implement educational programs related to disability services, mental health issues or other topics that may hinder student success.
Refer students to appropriate external agencies to complete assessment, outside community mental health resources and other community agencies. Develop, foster, and maintain relationships with community service organizations and agencies
Work with the Director to plan, implement and evaluate the programs and services provided by the department.

Additional Job Functions:
Provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention
Work cooperatively with counterparts on the other campuses to achieve the College’s annual goals and objectives.
Serve as department liaison and on college committees as requested.
Engage in professional development opportunities.
Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Facilitate timely, professional communication and problem resolution strategies.
Have good working knowledge of a broad range of disabilities.
Must be knowledgeable about the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and the college’s policies and procedures related to TSI.
Must be knowledgeable about and be responsive to FERPA law and regulations.
Maintain processes and systems that improve the quality of customer support services.
Demonstrate working functional knowledge and use of Banner.
Must be knowledgeable about university transfer requirements, reverse transfers, and articulations agreements.
Coordinate, plan, and implement targeted events and activities on campus.
May conduct individual and group counseling.
Must adhere to the highest principles of ethical behavior and strive to ensure the fair, objective, and impartial treatment of all persons with whom they deal.
Must use reasonable and informed practices to limit the liability exposure of the institution, its officers, employees, and agents.
Maintain counseling and advising records as required by federal and state professional counseling regulations.
Must possess outstanding customer service skills and have the ability to work with multiple projects and within deadlines.
Must be available for occasional nights and weekends activities.
Required Education:
Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, or related discipline from a regionally accredited college/university required.

Required Experience and Knowledge:
Experience in working with students with disabilities.
Experience interpreting psychoeducational reports and other disability documentation.
Demonstrated understanding of assistive technology.
Demonstrated knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2009; and other federal and state laws pertaining to higher education and disability.
Experience with creating and fostering student success, retention, and completion.

Preferred Experience:
Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.


Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.), Licensed Master or Clinical Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW) and/or National Certified Counselor (N.C.C.) or Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) preferred.
Any license(s) and Certification(s) must meet the State of Texas guidelines and regulations for counseling practices, regardless of exempt status of educational entity.

Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
Salary Grade: 25
