The Application Specialist provides support, business analysis, and technical expertise for enterprise applications on the web team in IT Services, primarily the web content management system (CMS) and university web content. They collaborate with others inside IT Services and across campus to create and maintain web content and documentation; assess the accessibility of new technologies; and leverage their assigned applications and other web-based technologies to solve problems in innovative and sustainable ways.

This position may be eligible for hybrid or remote work(typically within a 90-mile radius from the Marquette University campus).

Duties and Responsibilities

Administer the web content management system (CMS) and related technologies. Troubleshoot issues in the CMS and Marquette websites. Provide user access to the CMS and Linux/Apache web servers.
Administer and support other enterprise applications assigned to the ITS web team. Engage vendor support resources as needed.
Triage, analyze, and respond to Help Desk tickets. Provide world-class customer service and develop relationships with customers at all levels of the university.
Create and maintain documentation, including IT Services webpages that follow brand guidelines and web accessibility requirements.
Collaborate with the Office of Marketing and Communication to help launch websites, reviewing sites before and immediately after launch.
Review VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates), evaluating the usability of technology products for persons with disabilities.
Provide support and analysis in a multi-tier environment including databases and application servers. Collaborate with other teams in IT Services to ensure consistent system performance and availability.
Work in a project environment on the testing, implementation, and upgrade of software systems.
Provide subject matter expertise to IT Services management.
Follow formal change management policies and procedures. Comply with relevant policies and alert IT Services management to compliance issues and concerns.
Create Qualtrics surveys for IT Services management and generate response reports.
Keep abreast of technology trends and colleague organizations in areas affecting their applications. This might include participation in online communities, meetings, and training opportunities.
This position is not on call but is periodically required to work evenings or weekends for pre-planned patching and upgrade efforts.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience or High School diploma with at least 4 years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Experience administering and supporting enterprise applications. Experience in end user support and a strong service orientation.
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical people.
Demonstrated professional attitude and ability to maintain confidentiality. The ability to maintain an effective working relationship with a diverse group of colleagues and end users.
The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with MS Office, Teams, and related tools.
Proficiency with Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, and Dreamweaver.
Proficiency with Windows, familiarity with macOS.
Familiarity with web coding concepts (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience with web content management system administration.
Experience with Apache web server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux command line interface
Familiarity with web accessibility (WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 standards), PDF and Office documents accessibility.
