Head of Digital Accessibility

Job Summary:
The newly created Head of Digital Accessibility leads the Digital Accessibility Program and efforts to proactively and systemically address the overall accessibility of Carolina's digital resources and infrastructure with the goal of improving the usability for people with disabilities. The ideal candidate is an individual with a passion for digital accessibility who will launch a university-wide digital accessibility program from the ground up at one of the nation's preeminent public institutions. This position is housed within Information Technology Services and reports to the ITS Chief of Staff. Given the university-wide scope of the Digital Accessibility Program, this individual is expected to work closely with stakeholders from around campus and regularly report out to the Digital Accessibility Advisory Team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required - Extensive knowledge and experience with accessible Web design, principles of Universal Design and understanding of accessibility issues related to emerging web technologies, multimedia and learning environments. - Experience working across a large organization to influence and lead change. - Experience presenting to groups, developing and conducting workshops. - Knowledge of disability law (as applies to higher education), state and national disability resources, rehabilitation training, and information design (e.g., Web-based technologies). - Effective verbal and written communication skills - Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Preferred - Supervisory experience - Experience training diverse groups of staff members with varying levels of expertise - Experience with HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, XML and web content management systems, WordPress in particular. - Extensive knowledge of assistive technology hardware and software and computing systems. - Demonstrated experience developing customized solutions for a complex technology environment. - Five or more years of professional experience in a higher education setting. - Master's degree in relevant field, and/or certificate in Assistive Technology (AT) from an accredited university.- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; - or a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in IT project management or technical project management related work; - or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
