Principal User Experience Accessibility Strategist

As a member of the User Experience team, you will assess, coordinate, and support product development teams in their use of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to prevent and remove accessibility barriers. May develop and apply software design/usability processes to investigate technical accessibility problems. May provide product usability, evaluation, and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems, including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response, and conversational user interaction.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in this area of specialization. Will be a leading contributor individually and as a team member. May provide direction and mentoring to others. Must be fully competent in WCAG 2.1/AA and Section 508 accessibility standards

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Analyze design and code for accessibility compliance, report on findings, and develop remediation solutions when necessary

Work in a highly collaborative environment, providing accessibility expertise to support engineering teams throughout their Scaled Agile Program Increments

Test and ensure implemented accessibility solutions are effective and successful

Contribute to new and existing design standards, pattern libraries and brand guidelines by applying accessibility standards and user considerations

Promote accessibility within the organization and advocate for an “accessibility first” mindset when developing new products and workflows

Train and mentor design peers on user considerations, best practices, and accessibility standards related to designing and maintaining accessible products

Working with Federal and Commercial Clients.

Required Qualifications:

At least seven years of web design or development experience

At least five years of experience in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and ADA Section 508 accessibility standards

Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1+ success criteria, WAI-ARIA, Section 508, and the difference between legal compliance vs. accessibility beyond compliance

Ability to clearly convey issues and solutions to engineering teams via documentation

Strong knowledge of assistive technologies (e.g., Screen readers, magnifiers, alternative input devices, etc.) for desktop and mobile devices

Experience working within Agile methodologies

Ability to operate effectively in a geographically dispersed organization

Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

Ability to negotiate, influence, and collaborate to build successful relationships

Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques

Desired Qualifications:

Working to intermediate knowledge of ReactJS

Expert user of Jira as a feature and defect tracking tool

Proficient with various accessibility testing tools such as aXe and ANDI

Familiar with VPAT or ACR documentation

Ability to convey issues and solutions to engineering teams in technical terms

International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Certified

Healthcare industry experience

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated location(s)

California Pay Range: from $107,400 to $214,900 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Colorado Pay Range: from $101,400 to $193,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

New York City Pay Range: from $101,400 to $204,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Washington Pay Range: from $113,400 to $204,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
