We are seeking a creative Accessibility Specialist to join our growing team!
In this role, you will help streamline our existing design and accessibility procedures, advise our internal corps of content creators, remediate various files for Section 508 and/or ADA compliance using a variety of tools, and identify cost-effective solutions to address accessibility needs. You must be able to think analytically, while driving cultural change through cross-functional teams, and be accountable for meeting both business and creative goals. This can be a fast-paced, dynamic environment – you must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multi-task a variety of demanding assignments without a degradation of work quality.This role can be full or part-time.
Qualifications
2+ years in an education, editor, quality assurance, consultant, or business analyst role
Familiarity with Section 508, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.+, and ADA provisions and their related application to policy, products and services
Experience with assistive technology (i.e., JAWS, NVDA, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, ZoomText, CommonLook PDF, etc.)
Proficient knowledge of Adobe Acrobat
Excellent computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to assess business requirements
Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and customers at all levels
Excellent written communications skills with solid technical writing abilities
Exceptional customer service skills, with a collaborative approach to problem solving
Ability to effectively utilize available tools and resources to resolve issues
Ability to identify / define viable technology solutions delivering required business capabilities
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Bachelor’s or master’s degree
Responsibilities
Remediate various files to Section 508 compliance standards
Evaluate current processes and workflows and identify solutions that will improve efficiency.
Develop short- and long-term strategies to address accessibility requirements for emerging digital platforms.
Keep stakeholders in different parts of the organization informed of accessibility concerns that they need to understand
Identify essential tools and skills for designers and testers
Certificates, licenses, registration
Ability to obtain government security clearance
U.S. Citizens / Green Card Holders only due to government or federal requirement
Bonus Points
DHS Trusted Tester certification
Familiarity with instructional design principles (i.e., scaffolding, ADDIE, SAM, etc.)
Familiarity with eLearning platforms (i.e., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Learning Management Systems, etc.)
Familiarity with Content Management Systems (i.e., Xyleme)
Experience in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, WAI ARIA, the application of WCAG 2.x AA requirements across multiple platforms, and the use of assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnification, and read-aloud tools
Background in computer science, information technology, human factors, user experience design, graphic design, or related fields of study
