Accessibility Project Support Specialist

"Job Overview: The Accessibility Project Support Specialist provides hands-on support to ensure that ICT projects and electronic documents meet Revised Section 508 Standards. This role involves evaluating and remediating documents, guiding teams on accessibility compliance, and delivering training. The specialist works closely with DHS project managers and accessibility experts to integrate Section 508 requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities: Support ICT projects by ensuring Section 508 compliance across all project stages. Evaluate and remediate electronic documents (Microsoft Office, PDF, forms) for accessibility compliance. Apply knowledge of Revised Section 508 Standards to identify and resolve accessibility issues. Provide verbal and written training to staff on document remediation techniques. Collaborate with accessibility testers, project managers, and stakeholders to implement accessibility best practices.

Required Skills: Broad knowledge of Revised Section 508 Standards. Proficiency in document remediation using Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills for delivering training and documentation. Ability to support complex IT projects and ensure accessibility compliance. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills in accessibility evaluation.

Required Qualifications: AAP CPACC Certification (mandatory). Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting ICT projects with Section 508 requirements. Minimum 2 years’ experience evaluating and remediating electronic documents/forms for Section 508. Proven ability to deliver verbal and written training on document remediation. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Communications, Education, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in accessibility compliance and remediation.

Preferred Skills: Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 Guidelines in addition to Section 508. Experience working with federal government accessibility compliance projects. Knowledge of assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, voice recognition tools). Experience developing training materials and documentation for diverse audiences. Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams in an Agile or Waterfall environment.

Certifications: IAAP CPACC Certification
