Job Summary/Basic Function:
Responsible for assisting Boise State University in meeting federal mandates regarding accommodating students with disabilities.
The Educational Access Center provides leadership to the Boise State University community and guides achievement of the university’s goal to improve educational access and student success for all students. The Educational Access Center empowers students with disabilities to accomplish their educational goals by facilitating access and promoting inclusion.
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in- depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
60% of Time the Accessibility Coordinator, Assistive Technology Senior must:
Complete intake interviews primarily for students who blind, low vision, Deaf, hard of hearing, or students with related print and auditory disabilities and determine thoroughness/appropriateness of documentation
Facilitate student success and support inclusive excellence by administering and coordinating services for students with disabilities
Program support, development, and assessment
Monitor, assess, and implement developments in available assistive technologies
Train students and EAC staff on assistive technologies used on campus
Act as initial contact for students/faculty/campus department questions and concerns regarding accommodations and disabilities
Oversee creation and organize production of accessible materials
Act as a liaison for the Educational Access Center and stakeholders, particularly the IT Accessibility Committee and Deputy ADA Coordinator for Digital Accessibility
Communicate frequently with students to ensure understanding of the course accommodations, schedules, and program services
Facilitate faculty cooperation, respond to student concerns, review course content and student's use of reasonable and appropriate accommodations
Adhere to regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act
Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and privacy Act (FERPA)
35% of Time the Accessibility Coordinator
Participate in professional development activities to continually improve/enhance current knowledge and skills related to accommodation services
Respond to staff or student concerns and provide assistance or escalate to a supervisor, as needed
Supervise student access assistants
5% of Time the Accessibility Coordinator
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of assistive technologies including, but not limited to:
Accessibility software such as JAWS, Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText,
Assistive listening devices
Strong mediation skills and experience
Conscientiousness and responsibility
Continuous improvement orientation
Focus on customer service
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Fluent in American Sign Language
Assistive technology certification
Salary and Benefit s:
$50,502.40 – 62,379.20 annually.
