Position Summary:
UAF eCampus is hiring a Student Accessibility Specialist to assist with improving accessibility in online courses. Do you have an interest in design, editing, mixed media, pedagogy, and/or disability? Come work with the eCampus team and build a skillset in the expanding world of online accessibility and design. Applicants should be ready to learn on the job, but need not have prior experience working in these areas.
Duties:
Attend accessibility training and explore trends in accessibility Other duties as assigned supporting eCampus efforts Assist with tasks to support universal design such as document conversion, editing audio transcriptions and writing image descriptions Assist faculty and Design Team with course accessibility requests Work with eCampus staff to conduct accessibility reviews of courses
UAF eCampus is hiring an Accessibility Specialist to assist with improving accessibility in online courses. The specialist will build accessible features during the course design process, modify existing course content to adhere to principles of Universal Design for Learning and other accessibility standards, and cultivate an understanding of wider issues of accessibility in higher education. Applicants should be ready to learn on the job, but need not have prior experience working in these areas.

Tasks range from requesting and editing closed captions to tagging PDF files to improving website navigation structure. The Accessibility Specialist will be supported in developing a skillset to work within a Universal Design framework as well as the following software and services: Adobe Acrobat Pro, Google Suite, Grackle Docs, Blackboard Ally, 3Play Media, Kaltura and Wordpress.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Individual should feel comfortable using the following tools:
Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Pro
Google Apps
Blackboard
Web video platforms such as YouTube, Kaltura MediaSpace, Twitch, etc.
Web publishing platforms such as Wordpress

The following skills and abilities are preferred:
Problem solving abilities
Ability to be detail oriented
Awareness or understanding of closed captioning
Basic proficiency in video editing
An interest in issues of accessibility, disability, assistive technology or universal design

Applicants should be ready to learn on the job, and will be supported in developing a robust skill set in the area of accessibility.

Required Experience:

Demonstrated writing and editing skills
Excellent oral and visual communication skills
Experience working with a team, faculty or staff
Demonstrated dependability and time/task management skills

Typical Education or Training: 1+ years of experience in web design, video production, copy editing, journalism, publishing, or other fields are preferred.
